Happy Birthday, Vincent Price: In Memoriam

Today would have been the 100th birthday of Vincent Price.

Pause in your week-end to celebrate the centennial of this funny, gentle actor, bon vivant, & scholar.

Check out Egghead, Price Prospero, Dr. Phibes, or "The Whales of August."

TCM should have shown some of his films.

He could make a good movie scary without using the gross out factor.Didn't always need blood and gore.

He was a great actor, a kind man and true gentleman. Someone to be admired.

Christopher Lee turned 90 this month...

Btw, that Vincent Price artwork is fantastic!

They ran "House on Haunted Hill" on the Bay Area Me-TV Svengoolie last night. Happy Birthday Vincent!

Always been a fan. Horror, Edgar Allan Poe, Batman, ... he was involved with everything I like

^Me, too--absolutely my favorite character actor.

And capable of fine dramatic work, too (Mostly for Fox, where he was under contract):

            Laura

            Leave Her to Heaven

            Houseof the Seven Gables

            Song of Bernadette

            Dragonwyck

            Baron of Arizona

            While the City Sleeps

            The Whales of August

I'm almost ashamed to say I knew him best from Batman, and the 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo for years. A fine actor, perhaps over-typecast, but he never seemed to mind much.

They don't make them like that anymore.

The Abominable Dr. Phibes is on my top-10-list of cherished films. I've seen it dozens of times--very funny, beautifully designed.

Fright-wise, his turn as the decaying M. Valdemar in "Tales of Terror" really terrified me--I remember sleeping on my parents' floor when I first saw it. Now of course, his makeup just looks like butterscotch syrup lol.
