When it comes to Monster stuff I'm usually more about figures but wow, this Hasbro board game is pretty sweet.

Cool looking game and sort of fun to see even Hasbro "borrowed" from Aurora. Companies were pretty shameless in the 60s and 70s swiping from Aurora.

Ha! The last three games in the series (Creature, Mummy, Phantom) are VERY basic, not that the Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolf Man are much better. I still love 'em though.

I'd imagine we're gong to see many more vintage Hasbro Creature games pop up for sale, there's a company who has fully licensed a reissue of the game. Unfortunate from my perspective as I'd rather old toys not be reissued, but beyond their plans to release a mass market reissue of this 1964 game, and a limited edition of it with sculpted pawns, they've also stated that their creating a brand new game and are working with both top end game designers and illustrators/artists. That last part I can get behind wholehearted and can't wait to see and buy what they cook up. And just maybe an original Creature game can be had at under $500.

You aren't alone! If I understood correctly, there are already retail partners lined up to take the entire wholesale run of the regular editions, putting the initial project into the black. A very difficult thing to do when licensing is involved, so my hat is much off to them in respect on the business end of it.*

I wish I "felt" positive about it being remade, but it honestly bums me out. I ended up starting a rather spirited discussion around that on the Universal Monster board, and while I'm not particularly adept at articulating the why of it, it simply saddens me to see something that is out of production be replicated. all the more so when it's something it love.

I am however over the moon about the new new one. I imagine an illustrator like Vincent DiFate and since this company seems to specialize in games, who knows how cool it could be. Imagine a 3-D Rita as part of the playing board!

That is a neat looking vintage game. I dabble in collecting vintage board games. I pick them up when I find them in nice shape and a decent price. I like looking at the box covers, contents and knowing that I have something vintage from the 70's or earlier. I have a massed a bit of a collection just dabbling. My heart is really not 100% into collecting them, but I will pick them up if they fall into my hands so to speak.

I would have had no idea that this game would have fetched that kind of price. Wow! That is awesome. I need to start checking out what some of my games are worth these days.

Hasbro's monster games command quite a premium. Most game books value the second series of three at $300 each, but the eBay reality is what you see here.

Would you buy a reproduction of it? Do reproductions bother you, or do you simply like to have a representation? I'm always curious about how others feel on this. Thanks.

I will definitely be on the look out for those games in the future shall I happen to run across one in the wild.

I would not personally buy a reproduction of it myself as far as collecting goes. I am not a real big fan of reproductions of anything as it decreases the market value of the originals so much. I "might" consider buying a reproduction just to play with it though.

It really all depends:

If I don't have the original I love repros. I can fill out my collection. It looks cool on my wall.

If I have the original, I hate repros because they depreciate the value of mine.

That's legit. Funny enough, even though the Creature one of my main "things" and has been since I was five, the board game and the squirt gun are the two main items I've never plunked down for. So I don't YET own the game, but I would rather there not be a reproduction. Odd, eh?
