I watched I Am Legend last night

I finally watched I Am Legend (Will Smith) last night.

This movie is a great example how lousy CGI can totally ruin a movie.

The "zombies" were less than video game quality

Why would they do that ?

Who would think the CGI looked good other than the guy that made Batman 4

Well.... I've been told by friends in animation that there's been a big push from the top for CGI over the last decade ot wo 'cos they look forward to the time you can create a movie without actors juts by telling the computer to dub story #34 in setting #12 with characters 2,5, 16, 99 and 83; since it's a comedy. You can alsready see a lot of this "film by numbers" creeping in:

The monsters in "I Am Legend" being CG bugged me because they didn't HAVE to be. Other than the stretchy mouth thing they didn't do anything a dude in a suit couldn't have done, and they were pretty much just dudes with funny teeth and head bumps. Although, what REALLY bothered me was how they changed the original story:

*sigh* And folks wonder why I like foreign stuff so much. (Any rut that's not your own is new....)

Yeah, the creatures really took me out of the movie, too. Plus the ending made no sense since they had to change it.

If it wasn't for the EXTRA-BAD CGI I probably could tollerate it a lot more.

I have never seen the movie, and with all of the bad press from the members here, I will avoid it.

I haven't seen the Vincent Price version either, but I understand that it was excellent.

For me, the only really good movie, albeit with a different title was 'Omega Man', with Charlton Heston.

Now THAT was a good movie!

I think that Will Smith's performance was outstanding. In my mind it compensates for the CGI Darkseekers and the redone ending. I have always liked the premise of Richard Matheson's original novella.
