This is an annual tradition with me and my son. We watched it a few weeks ago. Just a fun movie that kind of takes the ideas that kids have of monsters and runs with it. Definitely in the tradition of the old Universal Monster rally flicks which it tries to emulate.
It's the kind of movie that would never be made now. Movies like this are either kid-oriented or a complete gorefest.
Other than Gary Oldman, Duncan Regher is the last good Dracula in my opinion as well.
The anniversary DVD has some great extras on it. The interviews with the cast and crew are much more honest than on most releases. Cool to see the kids grown up.
^I agree whole-heartedly with that article. I like The Goonies, but I do agree it has a kind of a "Neverlandish" charm about it, where as Monster Squad's kids are pretty much dead on me and my friends at the time, who were about the same age.
"Wolfman's got nards!" = possibly the most profound statement ever. Kicking the Wolfman in the nards, will allow you time to hunt down a silver bullet. Nuff said!
