    Is the Shining British ?

Was watching the Shining (original Jack version) on BBC America tonight.

BBC America only plays movies with a British connection.

Also, my TV guide channel lists it as "from United Kingdom"

    I don't get it.

It has only American stars and I think it was filmed in Oregon.

So what's the "from United Kingdom" for ?

The Shining was shot on soundstages at EMI Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, Britain. The set for the Overlook Hotel was then the largest ever built, including a full re-creation of the exterior of the hotel. A few exterior shots by a second-unit crew were done at Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood in Oregon.
Also it was directed by Kubrick who was in England for awhile.

Several of the movie's production companies were also British, one of which was Stanley Kubrick's own Hawk Films.

Kubrick vowed he would never leave the UK ever again to make a film. I read that they had to import lots of palm trees to the UK for Full Metal Jacket. Shots of the L.I.E. in NY from Eyes Wide Shut were CGI, (with names of places that don't exist).

Anthony Daneils loves to tell the story of how he was always the last of the cast to leave due to the cumbersome Threepio outfit. One day after finishing his day on Star Wars he wandered over to the soundstage where they were filming The Shining and admiring their sets. He then looked down and realized that he had tracked a set of footprints onto the freely laid Fake snow for the next days shoot. At which point he carefully backed off the soundstage by back tracking within his own footprints to avoid disturbing the snow even more. So you can imagine his delight when he finally saw The Shining in theaters and saw how Kubrik had incorporated his faux pas into the film.

Kubrick was phobic about travel - even in cars he always made his drivers drive very slow. He had a pilot's license, but was terrified to fly and he never wanted to be far from his home.

Yeah, Stage 3 caught fire, and did about £ 1.25 million worth of damage.

Did Kubrick have something against America ?

Seems he was born in the USA but lived in the UK and all his movies were from there.

He's said to have filmed the "fake moon landing" in 1969. Maybe that's why he stopped traveling to the U.S..

Not that I know of. I think it's more to do with the fact that he had something against Hollywood and he loved privacy.

                        Refreshing my memory with Wikipedia:

His earliest movies were shot in the US. He shot "Lolita" in England, because he thought there would be more censorship issues in the US. He shot "Dr. Strangelove" in England because Peter Sellers couldn't legally leave the country while going through his divorce. Then he required the size of the Shepperton Studios soundstage to shoot 2001 because apparently there was nothing like that available in the US.

It's said that he just decided to live there permanently during the planning stages of 2001.

I completely disagree with that conspiracy theory, but aside from that why would that stop him from traveling to the US? I don't get that at all.
