    'Creature' Sets Box Office Record

"Box Office Mojo noted that it's the worst opening in box office history for a film that opened in more than 1,500 theaters."

I have not seen this film and this is not a comment on it's quality. In fact, I might be interested in seeing this old-style monster movie.

It does appear, however, that there was absolutley no marketing behind this movie. I think I may have heard about here.

We got clips and the EPK for it here at work. Total garbage and just bad acting. Some of the scenes are just unbelievable inane.

We got it at my theatre. We had no idea we were getting it until a few days before. I thought it was a direct to DVD thing until that point.

Can anything with gratuitous boobies be ALL bad? (unless, of course, they're unattractive boobies)...

sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Oddly enough, it was playing across the street and the wife and I debated for half a moment whether to go see it on a lark on Friday night. A quick peak at the trailer set us straight.

I have seen some ads for it here in Louisville. I think the general public is just burned out on special effect films right now. And if the story doesn't look engaging enough, then most folks will stay home. Plus your starting to see alot of Summer product hit DVDs...odd as that may be. Since Friday we've seen the release of both X-Men First Class, and Thor. I'm sure most are staying home with a bowl of popcorn right now. I know I am!

It looks like a low rent Creature from the Black Lagoon/Alligator People thing, not that there's anything wrong with that. I don't see anything differentiating it from the typical "Syfy" crap fest save for possibly better FX and no terrible stunt casting. I will check it out.

This publicity is likely doing it more good than TV and radio spots.

I didn't even know about this till I saw part of the trailer while watching tv the other night. I am a big fan of 80's style movies with bad acting and plenty of skin so this might be worth a DVD rental.

Yup. But still some bad acting. Then again most monster movies makes it a prerequisite to obtain the cheese factor.

I certainly don't mind an old school, 70's or 80's, rubber suit monster movie, but the problem with "Creature" is that it's just poorly realized all around. A talentless, 90 minute mess. Nothing more-- The film is truly devoid of anything even remotely redeeming. Sadly, in this industry people often forget that making a "successful" movie sometimes takes talent.

This colossal disaster is actually undeniable evidence of that, because when you have NO marketing hooks, NO movie stars, NO comic book or video game tie-ins, NO gimmicks, and NO studio support, you HAVE to have talent. In other words, the movie actually has to be good... Who would think???
