Well.... that's the nice way of putting it; but the lower the rating, the wider the audience so a lot of companies "tone it down" so's they can get a lesser rating. It LOOKS entirely voluntary, but it's the execs kowtowing to the ratings board.

    Exactly.

The bottom line is it's still a case of the BBFC enforcing their ludicrous and ill conceived censorship mandate.

In the 80s and 90s they had a problem with nunchucks, which affected everything from martial arts movies, to episodes of Doctor Who, to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

These days they have a problem with headbutts and switchblades.

Last house on the left (original version)* I spit on your grave (original version)*
House on the edge of the park*

These arent about sex, it's about using sex as violence.
I still hate the main badguy in Last House and House . . Park. Even seeing him in Swamp Thing icks me out.

I just cant watch ape. ( didnt like the Hills Have Eyes remakes either)

Driller Killer is a rare crazy art film I finally got to see recentlly.

I brought a bootleg copy of Cannibal Holocost home years ago from the Pacific. I have a problem with that one. Filmakers exploited the locals. Eating a turtle didnt bother me.

Didnt Tobe Hoopers Eaten Alive/Death Trap have a young Robert Eungland in it?

That was the idea of the old 70's bad guys; it's what justfied their brutal, horrible deaths at the hand of a hero or erstwhile victim. Post- "Commando" they started toning stuff down and you got weird, cartoony bad guys who mostly THREATENED to do stuff; and if they DID do something, it was to nameless extras so's the audience wouldn't feel so bad about it.

Eden Lake is a modern film which would have been straight onto this list if it had been made in 1980.
