Fright Night and Conan both tanking at Box Office

Early numbers for Friday are in. Neither films remotely threatened the top spots. Conan came in at 4th place with a paltry $4.1 million. While Fright Night suffered even worse with an abysmal $3.5 million in 5th place. You know I was really wondering if planting a horror film like this at the end of a congested Summer season was a good idea. I think people would have been more interested in seeing this around October when the topic might have been more appropriate for the season. Oh well...

Just shows sometimes you can't improve a good movie.Yeah Fright Night might have faired better as a Halloween release.

There wasn't much of a crowd for it last night at the theatre. A shame because a 3-d movie like this should be seen on the bog screen.

I would go watch Fright Night in an October release but I have no need to watch the new Conan, The first moves were just too good to have a remake.

Kind of like the new Spiderman....Like really we are going to start this over again!!

There is a difference between a movie shot for 3-d and the ones converted to 3-d in post. I've been pretty meh about most of the others this summer... Even Harry Potter which I saw both 3-d and non. The superhero stuff as well...could have taken it or left it.

I'm thinking specifically of how effective the car scene was in 3-d for Fright Night. The full effect of the 360 degree turn inside the car while Vampire Jerry was onthe attack outside was quite the action set piece that definitely won't have the same impact if you don't have a kickass home theatre set-up.

I just wish they had done this with whatever those new rumble seats are branded. That would have been fun.

Also, there was another specific scene that gave me that sense of hieghts which I haven't experienced since Avatar. It was actually a rather subtler effect in Fright Night than Avatar, that I didn't quite notice at first.

If Captain America was actually shot in 3-d, they probably could have made better use of the effect when Bucky fell off the train, or the final fight scene where the audience should be feeling Vertigo as the plane spins out.

I was looking forward to Fright Night, however, none of my local theaters have either of these films playing in regular format, only in 3-D. I'm among those who do not care for 3-D at all ("shot in" or "converted") so I will have to wait for the DVD on this one.

I don't like paying the extra cost, the discomfort that comes with wearing the stupid glasses over the top of my regular glasses, and most importantly I do not like the way the colors are muted by the dark lenses (not to mention the blurred mess that becomes of fast action sequences nor the consequential headache). For me, it detracts from the overall experience instead of enhancing it.

Unless they can perfect a 3-D technique that does not require glasses, this fad will eventually die off.
