I'm still hoping somebody will one day find the lost spider pit sequence from the original King Kong in a vault somewhere.

They found most if not all of the excised footage from Metropolis, so it might happen some day.

Yeah, that's cool, have that on the DVD.
Peter Jackson and Weta did a great job creating that, but I still want to see the actual original footage.

It's probably in some old storage room somewhere, in a dust covered container... a true cinematic grail waiting to be rediscovered.

I've seen sniglets from it over the years.... including the models, (which someone had on youtube) and the re-enactment looks about right. The only big dif: someone had what was widely believed to be the remains of the spider model, and it had somewhat googly-lookin' eyes. (In the recreation you can see how the spider almost looks to have a small head on top of the forward body segment.)

There WAS footage on youtube of the model, from an auction I think.... but I can't find it now. Anyhoo; that's the beastie there.

Nice! I've seen that top pic before, along with one other still from the sequence, but I've never seen that close up of the spider model before. Cool!

it was not until Forrest Ackerman printed a still of the spider pit scene in an early issue of famous monsters that the search for it began and truly confirmed that indeed it was shot.

Did they recently find some of it? Or maybe the whole scene? I kinda recall (within the last year or so) seeing the actual scene with the googly-eyed spider thingie, as well as a short (2 minute) video hilighting the model.... like it was for auction or somesuch.... but I can't find either now.

As far as I know, no actual footage from the excised spider pit sequence has ever been found.

A cool pic of FJA with one of the spider models:

NYAHAHAAA!!!! The bottom pic; that's one I was looking for! I THINK there's a video that goes with it.... I thought it was for an auction, but it could be a display somewhere.
