    True Blood Season 4

So they are apparently recycling plots from Gilligan's Island now? Amnesia? When do the headhunters and Japanese soldier turn up?

Plus they go to all the trouble of getting a terrific actor like Gary Cole, just to waste him within the first couple of minutes?

I'm not quite following this into Witches and Fairy land. For me the initial appeal was "What if Vampires were real", and it's kind of strayed quite far away from that one gimme.

I dunno.... but that sort of thing might tempt me to watch.

I stopped watching it last year as soon as fairy land popped up. They lost me there

I only just started watching season 3, where the werewolves come into play

I have never missed an episode...good all around acting...great characters (Eric is my favorite)...pretty campy & gory at the same time...lol.

The werewolves are kinda weak though (physically speaking)....the werepanthers suck even more (pointless)....and the shapeshifters are just plain boring (although Sam is a good character).

The fairies storyline is beyond absurd...lol...I hate it...

However...I dig the vampires...and it pains me to say this...since I've always liked werewolves more than vampires...lol.

I do like the witch storyline...the main witch/witch spirit seems to be a very powerful witch...she can do lots of damage...and looks like vampires are threaten by her.

The opposite of Twilight for sure...another winner from HBO...

          P.S. Oh yeah...hot chicks too...

And all of these are plotlines from the books, by the way.

What I like about the werewolves is the transformation: real people morphing into real wolves.

What I dislike about the werepanthers (aside from the overall silliness of the concept) is the transformation: real people morphing into such obviously fake CGI creations.

I liked Season 1 the best. Season 2 (IMHO) jumped the shark with the whole maenad storyline. And Season 3 did a quick 180, came back and jumped the shark (again) from the opposite direction with the fairies. Will wait for the DVD release to watch Season 4.

It's not a prefect show...but it's great escapism...campy and bloody at the same time...the only thing I can't get into are the bloody fairies and the werepanthers...both completely boring and uninteresting.

I'm digging the wiccan/witch storyline though...kinda refreshing...since witches have been pretty much been absent from movies for a while...and no...wizards don't count...

I tried to read one of the books after the first season because I liked the show... Problem I had was it is total "Chick-lit" told from the POV of Sookie, as opposed to the strong ensemble concept of the show. I find prose-Sookie as annoying as brigette jones or the sex in the city girls In that "I looked so good in that dress, and that ***** was just totally jealous of me" kind of way.

My favorite character is Jessica who apparently does not exist in the books.

It's incredible how all of the women introduced in the past couple of seasons all exist within the Hot/crazy spectrum... Particularly if they do have requisite nudity.

I'm not a fan of the fairy storyline either, but I like where they're going with the witches.

I believe the last decent witch-themed movie was The Craft...the four chicks were great.

Oh...and please don't mention The Blair Witch Project...that one was total garbage...

The Craft was a great movie. I think The Blair Witch Project is one of the best horror movies in recent memory. Never has seeing absolutely nothing been so unsettling.

                              Hmmmm....

It might just be me, but SO MANY of the "urban horror" genre stories remind me of the White Wolf "World of Darkness" RPG:

                              Wikimedia Error

....in one form or another. Especially the conflicts between different monsters. I gotta wonder if that's by design, or some kind of weird parrallel development. (Considering how much the White Wolf stuff was "inspired" by Anne Rice and her ilk from the 80's.)
