    Shock Cinema Magazine

The death of Psychotronic Magazine a few years ago was made easier by this similiar publication, currently my favourite magazine which covers the Cult Movie/Trash/Arthouse/Weird genres.

The writing is great and the stuff they dig up ranges from Russian post nuke films to busted 70s TV pilots, great interviews as well. I highly recommend picking up an issue:

I think that actress in the lower left was the female lead in "The Beast Must Die".

Great magazine, I've been reading it for years, since it's fourth issue (back when it was much less slick looking, more of a fanzine, and creator/editor Steven Puchalski was much grumpier ). Psychotroic is sadly missed, but I'm glad that this mag is still plugging on.

Good eye, she is and speaks about the movie a lot in the issue.

I could never find Shock Cinema up until a few years ago although Puchalski's "Slime Time" kept me entertained on a flight back from Europe once. Found it in Frankfurt of all places. You're right, alot of his reviews in that were kind of angry drunk rants, which I enjoyed but am glad he's mellowed some.

Psychotronic was something i read from issue 3 or so but his obsession with Politics at the end had me worried, I wasn't surprised he threw in the towel.

I first found it at an "underground" videostore in Buffalo (the late, great Mondo Video). The magazine's reviews really helped point me towards interesting, obscure bootleg videos to rent at that store back in the mid 90's. I discovered LOTS of hidden gems thanks to that mag. And Steve's reviews were very entertaining to read (often more entertaining than the films themselves turned out to be), as were his half drunken rants that served as editorials. I was really pleasantly surprised when I first saw it show up at newstands. "Slime Time" is a great read too.

I used to read Psychotronic a lot too, but it started to lose me near the end. I still enjoy flipping through the two big books that he put out though.
