Best Vampire movie i have seen. Not a big Fan. Other Two Favorites are 7 Brides of Dracula (Hammerhouse and Hong Kong Kung Fu & Big Blonde Boobies) and Near Dark.
I've noticed a trend with movies from the last few years; and this is one of 'em: I've seen a lot of films that were good, but not great. Kinda like modern b-movies. "Daybreakers" was okay, had some neat ideas, was well put together, wasn't really stupid or anything.... but it played out pretty much how I expected.
I liked the concept a lot ("I"ll have a double latte with a shot of blood, please"), and there were many cools "winks" to the whole vampire genre. It's a fresh idea, to portray a society where vampires rule and humans are an endangered species.
I did feel that the movie lost "drive" halfway through, making the ending a little anemic...

"When things are at their darkest, it's a brave man that can kick back and party."
"I did feel that the movie lost "drive" halfway through, making the ending a little anemic..." GC.
Heh clever.
Im just a fan of " end of humanity " films. Not the cheesy Asteroid about to hit Earth stuff,
That scene with all teh soilders ripping each other apart was intense. A work of art.
The broken bridge car escape made me want to cheer .
Havent felt that way since Drag me to Hell or Doomsday.
I didn't think a great deal of it. I liked that it was different to your average vampire movie...but felt it was still lacking. Saw it at the cinema ages ago.
It's not really a Vampire movie. It's the usual humans are greedy, evil, destroying the planet type of stuff. Which would even be okay if it wasn't so painfully obvious and ham fisted about it. I'd rather sit through a Twilight marathon of sparkly Vampires.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I just cant get enough of the Humans destroying the world stuff. I loved the social commentary stuff. The citizens terrified at the "Solution" to the Zombie Vampires, having the army chain them together and drag them into the sun, and the army guys cheering.
The business guy going nuts at the coffe shop , and the scared salesgirl slamming the gate shut then sucking up all the blood themselves.
Each time they showed the citizens as the blood shortage got worse, as the began to stumble around more and more like junkies.
Movie had a lot of holes but it was really fun. And teh parking garage massacre floored me!
I'm usually not a big sequel guy but I'd like to see more.

Yeah, like I said, it's not a Vampire movie.
It's just another heavy handed hollywood the world is ending, end of days, we're all gonna die nonsense. That and the "social commentary" would even be fine if it had the least bit of wit or clevernesss to it. Again, it's so ponderously hamfisted and applied with all the sublety of a sledgehammer. If I want to watch a Vampire movie, I want to watch, you know, an actual Vampire movie. Not more of this Hollywood doomsday cult 2012 nuttiness.
To each their own. But I personally found it painfully bad. Not even enjoyable on a camp or it's so bad it's good level. The 70s doomsday B and D movies beats this by a mile. At least they were fun on a cheese level.

I just watched it tonight. I'm nursing a head-cold, and feeling pretty crumby, so watching vampires blow each other up for a while was a nice distraction. Willem Dafoe is always entertaining.
Full of hilarious B-movie style plot coincidences: The head researcher looking into artificial blood happens to be the guy who stumbles onto the Vampire cure?
And classic B-movie half-baked social commentary: It's about using up resources, no, it's about he cruelty of farming animals for food - no, it's really just about vampires exploding a lot.
Did I miss something - or did the Vampires really forget that humans can give birth to more humans?
