    Phantom of the Paradise

Last night my friend and I went and caught a showing of Phantom on the big screen, one of my all time favourite movies. It was pretty amazing seeing something that I was too young to catch in the theatre when it first ran. Noticed all kinds of things I hadn't before and I've probably seen the film 30-40 times.

Anybody else fans of this cult film?

You betcha--I love all things Phantom! The Faust/Dorian Gray angle is interesting. Beef is amusing, too.

And The Phantom's voice modulation reminds me of Dr. Phibes, one of my absolute favorites.

Absolutely LOVE the film. And the soundtrack!!
I always was miffed that I missed out on the Takara 1:6 figure when it first came out. Can't come close to affording it now.

That's a great movie that I haven't seen in a long time. It's a must have for the movie collection.

Really not trying to start something, but curious: This is one of those movies where I just don't get why everyone adores it so (have plenty like that for me as well) -- so what it is you guys love about it? I've seen it 1 1/2 times (just couldn't get through the second time I tried) and maybe it just doesn't "click" with me . . .

I still to this day always think of Swan when I see Paul Williams

When I first seen Smokey and the Bandit I said -- that's Swan !!!

First I think of Paul Williams as Virgil, then comes Swann

Yeah - to me all of De Palma's movies are a kind of a weird mess. I liked it for the craziness and for the fact that it's stupendously dated - but I didn't find it a lot of fun to sit through either. Maybe I thought it was trying too hard, or maybe I just wasn't in the right mental state when I saw it.

I always like Jessica Harper - I don't really get why she wasn't in more movies.

When I saw this on the schedule at the Bloor Cinema earlier this month, I remember thinking "This should be playing at the Paradise Cinema down the street... too bad it closed". My pick for the Bloor is the Seven Samurai playing at the end of the month.

I wish Corben did more movie posters and album covers.

I've seen parts of this on Fox Movie channel but never tried to really watch it. I'll have to give it a shot next time.
