    New Famous Monsters

    Famous Monsters

Anybody picking up the latest Famous Monsters? I was never much of a fan of the original publication but I grabbed the first issue on a trip one day and was really surprised at how nice it was.

It was a nice mix of modern and retro (My cup of tea) horror and of course, the premiere issue had a tribute to Forrest Ackerman.

I know for a lot of folks, they feel the mag has been "rescued" from it's previous publisher although all I know about that is his infamous feud with Ackerman.

I'm sure that will be a great success. I just cringe sometimes when I see Harry Knowles. The guy is drowning in pretentious self importance because he rubs shoulders with so many Hollywood folks. Well hopefully the magazine will find it's audience.

I can understand that sentiment, I haven't visited AICN in years for reasons similiar to this. However, he is a life long fan of the original magazine so I can understand why he's there.

Yeah. We had Harry at Wonderfest this past summer and he spent the first 20 minutes of his 'seminar' talking about how Stallone HAS to call him every day and talk to him. By the time he was done patting himself on the back, everyone was looking at each other with this attitude of "Really?" With the link you provided, Harry is at it again. What does he talk about first? His new hairdo. Here they are talking about the rebirth of one of the great monster magazines of all time and Harry thinks people want commentary on his goofy looking hair. And you can hear the same awkward silence when he's done. He just doesn't understand it's NOT about him...on ANY level.

Yeah that kind of stuff drove me batty on his site and lead to what I felt was a loss of objectivity.

Yeah, I didn't watch the video but I guess he does have a certain following, to anyone on the outside though he's a nerd with a website. Pity because I think he could provide some decent output, he just seems to personalize a great deal.

It is kind of fitting considering that FJA was far from anonymous with the original FM.
