Maybe, but as far as visuals go he was the most believable monster. If you're gonna put together a human with parts from different bodies the DeNiro monster is most likely what you'd end up with

My fave Frankenstein is currently "Frankenstein: The True Story." Finally got it a few months back. Weird, creepy, kinda sad. I like the animated one Toho did in the 80's too. Found a copy in the kid section of a rental joint back in the day. (NOT the best place to put it, if you've seen it.)

I just got my 6 year old watching A* C meet Frankenstein. she loves it and has watched it a few times already. I am going to show them Young Frankenstein next....Peter Boyle nailed the part

Peter Boyle for me is the Obvious choice.....but Glenn Strange is my other favorite who played the Monster three times. The most memorable was in Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein.

He was also in A&B's Comin Round the Mountain where he Played Devil Dan Winfield and had the Memorable line WILBERT!!!!!.....lol

    Love Hartman and especially Boyle.

Any "straight" Frankies you can think of?

I didn't care for DeNiro at all. It proves even the finest actor shouldn't take on just any role.

Christopher Lee's monster was just that. No pathos at all. That's how he was supposed to play it, but it doesn't register much with me that way.

Prior to this, Monsters were pretty scary to me as a little kid. I remember laughing to the point where I could barely breath when I first saw this scene as a wee little one.

I doubt anyone can deny Karloff IS the creature. I think he owns the part even moreso than Bela owns Dracula.

But after Boris, who is your favorite? Be it another Universal version, Hammer, or others?
