It can be a little hard to follow at times but is surprisingly very watchable and is the closest any of us will ever get to actually seeing the lost film.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
I've seen this. it's good for what it is. What I wish is a modern director like Guillermo del Toro actually do this movie with a homage to Chaney's character........
By the way i never like the remake Mark of the Vampire with Bela Lugosi.
Thank you for posting this, Werewolf! I believe I saw this on TCM a couple years back. This is one of those fabled movies, and like Gorn Captain says, I'm really hoping that it turns up one day so we can finally see what Chaney, Sr. had in store for us.
The first time I ever saw Chaney's vampire was in Alan Ormsby's book, Movie Monsters:
I saw this last year. It's great that someone took the time to save at least a small part of the original work.

I had a good look in my basement, and I've found a copy!
It took a while, because I had to shift a whole pile of Nazi WWII gold bars, and the real Mona Lisa. Then the door bell rang, and now I seem to have misplaced it again. Ah, well...
Seriously. I do believe in a copy turning up. They keep finding additional footage of Metropolis, so keep the faith!

The thing is I hear a certain Time Lord wrote "This is a fake" in felt tip pen under all the copies of the Mona Lisa so good luck with that!
I truly believe London After Midnight is forever lost.
MGM was extremely diligent of collecting copies of their films after print runs. Also to the best of my knowledge there were no 16 mm reduction prints made for home use. Once the theatrical run was over London After Midnight had no historical or financial importance to MGM at the time. They had one remaining nitrate print and it burned in storage. An extensive world wide search turned up nothing.
I would be shocked if a print ever shows up.
