    'The Thing' prequel..*sigh*

It seems that the stories about the thing prequel really are true. More shocking is that there is talk of a 'They Live" remake

My friend did the FX work on this, it's going to be faithful to the original and end at the beginning of the original.

Yeah, that's cool, I suppose I'm just super protective about Carpenter's Thing. I saw it at the movies when I was 13, and have been a fan ever since.
Carpenter's film is almost a sequel to Howard Hawks' Thing From Another World, rather than a remake in some ways, the events that the guys in the 1982 film watch on video are actually some of the events portrayed in the 1951 film... very clever.
I've no doubt that the folks making the current film are just as passionate as myself about Carpenter's film. The challenge to creating sick set-pieces to equal or top Rob Bottin's is huge!

I know from my friend's perspective, the Thing is one of the movies that inspired him to get into the craft, so it was kind of a dream come true in a certain sense.

We were talking about it at my birthday party last week but I'm afraid that free beer washed away the majority of the discussion.

"They Live" should be sequeled, it still is relevant.

Yeah, Wonderfest this year accidentally got a sneak peak when our guest, Greg Nicotero, who was unable to make it, delivered a video presentation from his shop. He was talking about the Predators film, however you also got to see shots of some of the new props for the Thing prequel. Their sweet.

And Ridley Scott is working on the Alien prequel.
              I was a Teenage Alien?

The thing that always bothers me about prequels, is that you know what comes next, and that kind of takes the suspense out of it. These days, the words "remake" and "prequel" send me running for the hills.
Even the Mad Max sequel is now a remake, while we all know that Gibson would be in the perfect part of his career to play Mad Max. He is now totally mad, and a menace on the roads.
              Mad Max, Beyond Sugar T*ts....

Actually, this article is the first I've read that makes me want to see the film. I'm not sure it'll live up to the original, but I like that they have real Norwegian actors in it and it sounds like they've busted their bottoms trying to remain true to the original and sticking to things shown in it as direct inspiration for this one. But that doesn't mean it'll be good or worth watching.

I can't imagine what they can do to end it that won't seem lame, though. And I can't imagine that there'd be anything new to reveal. The first one covered the paranoia and the danger pretty well.
