I picked up a double feature DVD this week. It contains both "The Land That Time Forgot" and "The People That Time Forgot", both starring the legendary Doug McClure. Few things soothe my soul like goofy rubber dinosaurs and hammy acting

I had picked up a copy of "It's Alive" awhile back and finally sat down to watch it tonight. The whole time I kept thinking that Brian would probably love the goofy wallpaper and terrible 70's fashions throught the movie

                    >it's your call dude,it's a good film and I'm sure you'll enjoy it

I dunno.... way back in the day I had a couple of friends who were REALLY into the Anne Rice thing; and I'm kinda Eurotrash Vampire'd out now. I miss the old "they're evil monsters" kind of thing. For the last 15+ years EVERY vampire has been hip, suave and sexy.

Not that it isn't a perfectly plausable way to write a vampire character; but it's been done so many times as of late that I can't concieve of a new take on it. Same with the "chickflick" angle; I've seen enough chick flicks that I KNOW how it's gonna play out. (Although I've been told that "rival male who's just as suave, hip and sexy but NOT a jerk who female lead falls for until other suave, hip sexy male comes around" doesn't show up until the next movie.)

This kinda sums it up for me:

The one with the mutant baby! I haven't sen that one in a zillion years!

That'll do it all right! It's not a bad book, kind've a weird film.... but unfortunately it became the "correct" way of doing vampires ever since. (Kinda how every Vampire from 1938 to the 50's HAD t wear a tux and slick their hair back....)

Gettin' back on topic: I don't own a copy, but they showed "Psychomania" a couple days ago! One of my favourite "lost" films. (THis, and "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things.") I know it came out on VHS, but I wonder if there's been a disk release. The version that was shown seeme dlike a really old print; possibly film stock, possibly really old studio tape transfer.

Dusk Till Dawn junked the Euro Trash vampire image pretty well. Just saw another good one, Sundown. David Carridine and Bruce Campbell star.

My local Big Lots has gotten in a new shipment of $3.00 DVDs, and I went down yesterday and bought a big stack of movies. Most of what I bought was non-genre 1930's-1950's musicals, comedies, and dramas, but I did get a stack of science fiction/fantasy/horror films as well:
                              Brainstorm (Natalie Wood's last movie)
                              Dogma
                              Eight Legged Freaks
                              Eating Raoul
                              Oh God!
                              Oh God! You Devil
                              Ten Little Indians
and three Hammer Frankenstein films: The Curse of Frankenstein
                              The Revenge of Frankenstein
                              Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed
They also had Return of the Vampire with Bela Lugosi, but I already own a copy of that one.
