Hollywood Monsters that still scare you ?

Many Asian Horror films of the past decade or so freak me out in ways that Hollywood can't. Probably because of the ridiculous need for North American audiences to have the minutia of everything explained to them.

I think there is greater terror in the unknowable. I think that is the reason that the Silent Hill video games freak me out.Comment

You're speaking of the Zuni Fetish doll.

I'm more terrified by the monster you don't see. Something banging on the door, something walking behind you, etc. Things that go bump in the night are scarier to me than the typical monster. Once you see a monster, you can begin to figure out how to kill it. The unseen can't be killed.

That Zuni doll is pretty freaky. But I'd probably try to trap it and burn it. Then I'd put the ashes in a bag, seal it in a safe, and drop it in the ocean.Comment

Okay, this guy still haunts my nightmares.

I'm pretty sure that it would look sufficiently campy by today's standards if I ever did revisit this movie.Comment

That's a good one.
But...you know...at the end...when Karen Black turns after the smoke...starts swinging side to side...then squats...starts yanking that knife into the floor...and shows that new demonic smile...that creeped me out more than the doll itself...lol.
Trilogy of Terror's last episode is the scariest TV horror segment ever...scarier than Stephen King's IT.

Ha! It's funny that you mention the last shot. One of the reasons Trilogy of Terror is so strong in my memory is because after I first watched it with my two older sisters, one of my sisters called the other into her room..... where she was imitating Karen Black doing just that! only with a ruler instead of a big knife..... A scream was heard throughout the house, it scared the hell outta herThat's a good one.

It's not so much a character as it is a moment. From the movie Witch Board when a young Tawny Kattaine(sp?) opens up the shower curtain and the old man with the axe is standing there. Even now , I know it's gonna happen and I still jump!!!
