and then we can see how bad they screw it all up as usual, destroy another classic with a crap remake

I was hoping this one was going to crumble, but well Hollywood needs money and is reaching to whatever is out there

Well......to be fair not ALL remakes of classics are crap.

The 1951 version of Ben Hur was a remake of the one from the 20's, and it won how many Oscars?

The same thing goes for The Thief of Baghdad. There've been at least three that I know of, and only one of them was crap.

Besides, it's usually the DIRECTOR who's crap. He's the one responsible for the movie.

Okay, maybe the writer too, cuz if he/she can't write worth spit, then the entire thing is shot.

As long as it's not the guy who directed The Last Airbender (I can never remember how to spell his name!), because his movies have gotten progressively worst over the past decade, and that's no lie.

Personally, I think he was grown in a lab somewhere. That's the only explanation for such cloying cuteness.

yes but if you notice nowadays there is a huge difference between a remake made now from horror films created within the last roughly 30 years compared to remakes made during the 70's and below.

A good 99% of all the recent and not so recent horror remakes that have slithered across screens within the past few years have been terrible with about 2-3 that have been ok at the most

remake after remake is practically all we get now and most should have never been remade to begin with. Too much catering to today's teen and that is usually what kills the film more than anything else

what do you think they are going to do with don't be afraid of the dark? It needs to cater to it's target audience, the ones too busy typing into telephones to pay attention to what is going on

I will gladly admit I am wrong if the remake actually gets pulled off well, but I strongly doubt it

I wasn't interested in this until I saw Del Toro's name attached.

Well, it's been a while since I saw the original movie. But, from what I remember, the whole thing starts when Kim Darby's character moves into her grandfather's house, and removes a panel or something from a wall that keeps the gremlins out.

Her husband thinks she's nuts, up until the time they get her for good, and they take her away.

I don't remember if we ever got a clear shot of the little gremlins, but knowing Hollywood and their hack directors, they will be uglier than the guy who was in the leprechaun makeup of the movie of the same name.

She will be the typical, whiny, stupid, semi-helpless female teetering on the edge of madness, while trying to convince everyone around her that she ISN'T nuts.

Her husband will be either truly concerned about her, or actively looking to get rid of her.

As to the ending, I have no idea. This being Hollywood, they might change it, but if it's going to be a complete remake, I doubt it.

Until the end.... when they push her TOO FAR.... and she fights back....

                      THIS time it's personal!

hopefully they do not change the story that much. Your memory is pretty correct. Sally opens up a "boarded" up fireplace and frees them. According to the demons the one who frees them has to become one of them and live with them.

They did give us some pretty good shots of them (especially in the bathroom scene). In my view the makeup on these little monsters is still very creepy. I can see them royally screwing it with cgi.

I can also see them changing it so that the things are free, but now it is them fighting everyone in the house and it turns into some kind of trying to survive and get out of here without being killed scenario

Del Toro may be the saving grace here. Then again regardless of who is doing it, what the studio wants is what the studio wants.

Knock on wood that this gets pulled off ok

I was about eight in 1973, and I wasn't allowed to watch it, but everyone in my 3rd grade class was raving about it!

I would catch it sometimes on the Late Show, but I would eventually wuss out and fall asleep on it!

Did it state where the demons came from in the first place and how many years it had been going on?

no but their maintenance man knew the story of the previous owner's and the reasons for it. It is kind of hinted at that it prob went on for a very long time

actually if you think about it they did not have too many demons. If it boils down to them wanting only the soul of who frees them then you figure it could have went on for a few generations, possibly the 1800's but not much further back.

So then it brings up the point of where did they come from and how did they get in the house? Maybe the house was built over their home or some sort of gate to hell and that gave them the entrance to our world?

I really hope they do not try to explain any of that in the remake
