Watched this last nite and give it a MEH grade at best. Of course it's fun watching a Wolfman (almost comedically) tear people to pieces, but the overall story was very limp and Benicio acted like he was doped up on horse tranquilizers.
I can understand why the studio had no confidence in it and delayed its release over and over again.

I have to agree with your comments (unfortunately). Del Toro is my favorite modern day actor and I was so disappointed in his performance. It was so unlike him to sleep walk through his lines, especially since he was suppose to be an actor in the film. The attack scenes as well as the fight scene between Father and Son were decent. But this didn't come close to the lame story and Benicio's performance.

Yea, I agree. If you went into it with low expectations, I think you like it. If you watched it with anything other than low, you were like eggh ok I guess.
I thought the story was good up to the point where Talbot became the Wolfman. After that, it pretty much fell apart. I also think they should have kept his appearance only in the woods. Having him running on rooftops was NOT convincing (too Van Helsing-like) and entirely over-the-top. And for the father to be a more advance werewolf (with regards to skill and speed), that didn't seem evident in their confrontation. I also thought the gypsy (Maleva) was woefully underwritten in the story. If there was any character that should have been flushed out more from the classic, it should have been her.
