The Fog is one of my favorite horror films. Every time we get a thick fog where I live, I can't resist saying, "There's something in the fog!" I'm sure my wife is tired of hearing it. Great movie.

The Fog is in my top 5 Carpenter films, definitely.
Kind of off topic, but I was channel surfing yesterday morning and caught the last half of 'The Thing'. Dang, but what a great, great film. Even going on 30 years later and it rewards repeat viewings. So much to like about it - the perfect horror film.Comment

Yeah, the Thing is another great one. Carpenter is definitely my favorite horror director. And that's what I love about The Fog and Halloween, great scares with little to no gore. Here's my top 5 list of favorite Carpenter flicks.
1-Halloween (this dukes it out with Gladiator for my all time fav movie, period)
2-The Fog
3-The Thing
4-Escape from New York
5-Prince of Darkness (not one of his best, but the creepy ending puts it in the top 5)Comment

Assault on Precinct 13 is also worth a look. It's early and a little rough, but is definitely worth seeing at least once.
Halloween gets honorable mention for being the prototypical modern slasher. It's been imitated so often that its impact is lost on most modern first time viewers.
After the 80s his stuff had a lot of diminishing returns, though I enjoyed his Village of the Damned remake. Didn't care much for Vampire$, In The Mouth of Madness, Ghosts of Mars, or Escape From LA. But for me, even his mediocre stuff is worth a watch - Memoirs of an Invisible Man, Christine, Body Bags. Starman is probably his greatest success and biggest departure.Comment

Gotta agree with just about everything you said.
Did the ending of Prince of Darkness give you chills as well, or was it just me?
And I love Assault on Precinct 13. I have it on Blu-ray. Just wouldn't put it in the top 5.Comment
