It's been a long, tedious road for the remake of the Tom Holland classic Fright Night, but the film finally has its director locked and loaded!
For those sad, unfortunate few who haven’t seen it, Fright Night, a staple of my youthful cable viewing, was about a young man who becomes convinced that his next door neighbor (played brilliantly by Chris Sarandon) is a vampire and enlists the help of a local actor in series (called “Fright Night”) about vampire hunting (Roddy McDowell) to aide in the hunt. It’s a clever, cheese-filled romp that I’ve always remembered affectionately.
According to the Variety Lars and the Real Girl's Craig Gillespie has officially signed on to take the reins of the film and will be shooting from a script by Marti Noxon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer"). Michael De Luca and Alison Rosenzweig are producing.
How far will this one stick to formula? Only time will tell.
Fright Night - Anton Yelchin Casted As 'Charley Brewster'- (Updated 04-07-10)
Anton Yelchin who recently played Kyle Reese in "Terminator Salvation" is in negotiations to star in “Fright Night,” DreamWorks’ remake of the cult 1985 vampire film.
Craig Gillespie is directing the new version, which sticks to the same concept of a teen being convinced that his new neighbor is a vampire, although no one will believe him. Marti Noxon wrote the new script and is keeping the character's name the same as in the original: Charley Brewster.
(UPDATE FROM MY BLOG)
Colin Farrell and Toni Collette have joined the cast of the DreamWorks' 1985 cult film remake of "Fright Night".
The remake sticks to the original concept of a teenager being convinced that his new neighbor is a vampire, though no one will believe him. Anton Yelchin will play the teenager/Charley Brewster, Farrell will play the role of Jerry, the Vampire with Collette playing Yelchin's mom, who at first disapproves of the new arrival but changes her attitude when she meets the magnetic man and -- surprise --
doesn't believe her son when he tries to tell her Jerry is a vampire
