    Wonderfest Pics

I traveled to Louisville with my daughter and some close friends on Saturday to check out Wonderfest. The Universal Monster Army had several members present with a large display of vintage monster toys. The crowd seemed a bit larger this time around, and the dealer's room was packed most of the time I was there. I spotted some of the celebrities but didn't get any autographs this time around. I witnessed Lou Ferrigno being rude to a fan and was kinda disinterested in meeting him after that. We did attend a talk about the late Forrest Ackerman that was interesting. The panel included Harry Knowles of Ain't It Cool News fame. As usual, I spent more time gawking than taking pics, but I did manage to get a few decent pics here and there:

Afterwards, we went to see "Iron Man 2" at the IMAX theater, then gorged ourselves on Chinese food. All in all, it was a good day.

Dang, I didn't know that was this weekend. I went once, about 10 years ago with a buddy. Great show. Glad you had a good time. Too bad about Lou. Someone else here posted he was a jerk to them.

I grew up in Louisville, but now live in Boulder, CO. I am, however, currently in Louisville for some family issues. Before I left Boulder to travel to Louisville, I spoke to another Mego Museum Member and he clued me in on the Wonderfest. I had a couple of free hours during the second day of Wonderfest and stopped by to check it out. Man was I happy that he tipped me off. I had a really great time, saw some totally killer stuff, AND scored an AHI Frankenstein from yet ANOTHER Mego Museum Member!! (Thanks again Ed!!...and Tom). If you haven't been to Wonderfest, (I had never been, nor had I ever heard of it), don't miss it next year. While I know it might have a different type of vibe, If Mego Meet this June is half as cool as Wonderfest was, its gonna be great too!!!

Very cool pics George! The monster toys are just drool worthy.

BTW, If I'm not mistaken that Schlitzy kit was by "The Barker Brothers" who would later go onto to become Sideshow. I remember meeting them when they unveiled that kit.

Yeah, every year, I wish I'd taken more pics. I tend to get caught up in gawking at stuff and end up not getting pics of everything I liked. The model room was just too packed to get good pics of the entire UMA display, so I had to settle for pics of each section instead. I've been having serious post-con letdown the last couple of days. It's been too long since I had a whole day to spend with my friends doing something fun.

Yeah, I live in Louisville and have worked Wonderfest for the past 13 years. It was voted the best convention in the country for 2009. We had people come as far away as Sweden and Japan and they were thrilled. As far as Lou goes, he won't be invited back. Actually Wonderfest never approached him directly. He kept calling up asking to be a guest, so the convention finally agreed. Alot had been heard about him, some unfavorable. But it was ASSumed he would be on his best behaviour since he wanted in so badly. Even the vendors in the dealer room were complaining about the guy on the very first day. The convention takes these comments quite seriously, so you can bank Lou is out for future appearances. I've always find it sad (and somewhat odd) when vintage TV stars display arrogance towards fans whom often represent their last form of income in a industry that kissed them goodbye decades ago.
