Here's a German produced version, very Hammer-esque, from 1967 starring former Tarzan, Lex Barker. The clip is in German but the movie - known as Torture Chamber of Dr Sadism rather than the translated German title of Snakepit & the Pendulum - is in English and available on DVD.

        >Is the Vincent Price version worth checking out?

If you like Vincent Price movies, yeah. It's one of his most entertaining. If you DON'T like Vincent Price it won't have much for you.

I agree. I read somewhere that Corman had borrowed sets from Becket before they were struck.

I like Usher & Tomb of Ligeia, also. I'm surprised the Corman Poes haven't been collected as a set as a follow=up to the 2007 VP set.

Pendulum is great fun but not such a solid script--Price really seems to be enjoying himself, though, & it's infectious.

I know! The first set was somewhat uneven; a second one would really be the creme de la creme.

I'm sure it's all based on film rights & prior sales...
