    The Pit and the Pendulum

Ever accidentally waste your time watching the wrong version of a movie?

I thought I'd be watching the Stuart Gordon version and it turns out I watched this version...

Very little to do with Edgar Allen Poe, despite it's claims otherwise. Complete snoozefest.

Is the Vincent Price version worth checking out?

I'm a big Edgar Allan Poe fan, but I have no desire whatsoever to see that first movie. The Corman movie however is a beauty, I recommend it

There was one in the 80s with Lance Henreiksen, was that the one you were looking for?

Kinda nasty how this one had them set to be split lengthwise rather than across the waist. *shudder*

Corman's version isn't his best EAP adaptation, IMO, but that's relative, since they're all worth watching.

I once bought a vhs copy of Masque of the Red Death thinking it was the Corman version. I think it had Patrick MacNee innit.
I definitely advocate watching the Corman Poe movies. They aren't particularly faithful to Poe, but they are great movies.
Also check out the Amicus anthology movie Torture Garden for the Robert Bloch penned "The Man who Collected Poe" w/ Palance and Cushing.

Masque is probably Corman's most faithful Poe movie and his best. Beautiful set design, and I'd put it in my top 50 horror movies easily.

That was the one I wanted to watch because it was by the Re-Animator team and I was kind of curious about it. I really enjoyed their Poe segment on The Masters of Horror.

The one I ended up watching had glacial pacing, no tension, bad acting and completely tame if you were looking for a lurid exploitation film, and no where near over the top enough if you were wanting something completely camp. WOOO Fear the power of... HYPNOTISM! Isn't this babe's pocket watch... SCARY!

I'd be interested in seeing Nevermore, too.

Now that looks cool, but it's play, no? No way I'll ever see it then

I love the Corman version. It does'nt follow Poe's story line, but the story is really good.
The sets, and lighting have a bit of a Hammer feel.

Yeah, most of us will probably never have a chance to see the play. But I can't see why they wouldn't film a performance.

Death of Poe looks interesting, too.
