    Dark night of the scarecrow

    Appreciation thread.

I saw it when it aired on tv and it had become an instant classic in my book of must sees and must haves!

I loved this movie when I was younger and it first aired. I recorded it and used to watch it a couple of times a year.

    Good news on this!

'Dark Night of the Scarecrow' Finally Coming to DVD

    17 March 2010 12:33 PM, PDT | Horrorbid | See recent Horrorbid news »

Could this be any longer overdue? What many consider one of the top ten made for TV horror movies the 'Dark Night of the Scarecrow' is one of those rare gems that gets better and better with age...

Scarecrow stars Charles Durning as Otis P. Hazelrigg who wrongly accuses and executes Bubba Ritter (Larry Drake aka Dr. Giggles), a mentally challenged man, for raping a young girl. When Hazelrigg and his group of vigilantes escape murder charges, they start to dying one by one while being stalked by a mysterious scarecrow, Hazelrigg must figure out who is behind the scarecrow’s revenge before he is the next victim.

Vci Entertainment is planning a special edition DVD release of the long anticipated creepy classic to DVD this fall fully restored and remastered just in time for the Halloween season. Expect to hear more about it as further details begin to emerge.

I know Larry Drake got his career making role as Benny on L.A. Law because of his portrayal of Bubba in this movie. This movie is very underrated and really cool for what it is. Fond memories indeed.

I'd also count the following among some of the best TV horror movies made:

                  Salem's Lot
                  Trilogy of Terror
                  It
                  The Duel

                      salems lot good call!

I was Mark Petrie growing up. I was obsessed with monsters even as a young child. It worried my folks!
I remember the same conversation between me and my father as the one Mark had with his dad in the film "Son when are you going to outgrow all this stuff!?"

anyway back to Salems lot, The part that scared me the most in that film is when Mark Petrie's mom and back from the dead on that hospital gurney. Spooky stuff!

Lakewood aka Ants is alot of fun. I own that one too. Robert Foxworth is a freaking TV legend.

Warner Bros gave Don't be afraid of the dark an official release as well as Bad Ronald and a few other tv films.

MGM is now also startng an "archive burn on demand" collection (probably from seeing how well it is doing with Warner Bros) and these can be purchased via amazon.com.

Hopefully more long lost tv classic will see the light of day again
