    Pontypool

An interesting and unique approach to the Zombie genre. Not quite a pure zombie movie and it hangs on a concept that is either overly absurd or arty depending on your POV of these things.

I would say that it functions best because of everything that they don't show, but suggest. Particularly since it's a radio broadcast (ala War of the Worlds) where you get to see the three main characters react to the bits and pieces of information they are fed piecemeal rather than seeing it.

Interesting approach to low-budget Canadian horror, in the same way Cube took the single location approach and looked at how people approach the horror of the unknown.

I've seen Pontypool and thought it was awesome. In England they apparently aired the broadcast bits over the airwaves as a radio show much like the old War of the World's broadcast and it was well received.

The movie is really very cool and quite intense and refreshing more so than many other movies coming out of the same sub-genre. There is an American movie much like this called Dead Air that has Bill Mosely in it. I have it but I haven't had the chance to watch it yet.

    **SPOILERS**

One of my favorite bits from the movie was when the helicopter reporter was trapped in the barn on the phone. His "report" over the phone I thought was quite chilling.

      Hmmmm....

I've been told it's based on a book ("Pontypool Changes Everything") and that there were/are supposed to be two more films, to show what was happening elsewhere during the crisis. (Maybe showing how the military in Quebec figured out what was going on?) I'm looking for the book, and I'd love to see more films 'cos I thought it was nifty and different.
