    Sherlock Holmes 2009 movie

Robert Downet Jr. as Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as Watson.
    Don't bother, save your money.

I really wanted to like this movie, but I left the theatre disappointed. Holmes should be a distinguished gentleman, a scientist, not a streetfighter, a common barroom brawler who practices black magic to solve a case. For the first time ever Watson is also younger than Holmes, which also bothered me.
If you want to see an entertaining movie with a good story, by all means go and see it. But if you really Sherlock Holmes you'll be disappointed.

I hear it's a great movie that has very little reason to be called "Sherlock Holmes". I'm sure it's great fun to watch Downey and Law in a rousing action adventure comedy, but yeah, I don't need my Holmes cracking wise, shirtless, running through massive special effects.

      Jeremy Brett all the way!

But I hear that this is the 1st time you actually see a Younger Holmes..., Most Holmes Books are Written, or Actor's who Always Protray Holmes ,... Holmes is Always Old. The Character Had to come from Somewhere's ..., He wasn't Just Born or Bore with Knowledge.

I actually wanna see this ..., and will also Probably believe I will like it,.. given I have taken those Ideas into Consideration,.. and Downey jr. Rules.

Actually it's not the first time Watson was portrayed Young. The 1980's Film "Young Sherlock Holmes" took liberties with the Holmes myth and made Watson younger in the Film. The film itself is good Family viewing......

I like the reviews I'm reading over at "Ain't It Cool News". Although in the Movies, Holmes has alway been portrayed as this dry Detective...Conan Doyle actually wrote him as more of a "Pulp Hero".

I'll be seeing this in the Theater!

Yea, I saw Downey on an HBO special about the movie saying they are portraying Holmes and Watson more as they were written in the books. He said it would catch some people off guard.

I'm all over this movie. It looks like so much fun. In the end thats what counts. I think in order for characters and brands to survive, the must adapt to a changing society. Batman is a good example of this. He's gone from dark to campy to dark again over his time and he remains popular.
If you ask the average person about Holmes they'll likely tell you he seems boring. This will change that.
Robin Hood has gone through many changes since his creation hundreds of years ago. Looks like he's going back to his roots in this new movie thats coming staring Russel Crowe. I think it will be a good one as well.

Wait for the DVD? Why? Because one person out of millions, on the internet no less, said they didn't like it?
Like it or hate..but at least make that determination on your own, in a theatre

It's an entertaining movie, but it's no Sherlock Holmes. So if you're a Sherlock Holmes fan (going by some of the responses a couple of you definitely are) you're probably not gonna like this.
And I know about Young Sherlock Holmes. Never said they've never done a young Watson before, but never a Watson who's younger than Sherlock. Not as far as I know

It's been years since I read any Holmes stories, so what I gleamed from them is long forgotten. TCM aired Rathbone's "Hound of the Baskervilles" and "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" last night. I caught the end of the first, and all of the later. I was quite impressed how well-done these movies were. Very moody and atmospheric. I enjoyed them! I hadn't seen any of them since I was a kid.

Robert Osbourne introduced another Holmes movie from the 70s following these, "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes", directed by Billy Wilder. He said that this movie attempted to be true to the Doyle's original Holmes. Which apparently includes Holmes being a cocaine user! In fact, at the end of Rathbone's "Hound of the Baskervilles", Holmes says "Watson, my needle!" I had no idea. I guess Downey's version isn't so far off.
