Ghostbusters (2016) 10th anniversary

Following a ghost invasion of Manhattan, paranormal enthusiasts Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, and subway worker Patty Tolan band together to stop the otherworldly threat.

This movie had a hard chance at success. Being a female driven action/comedy/horror film. The stars were strong comedians I have watched and enjoyed seemed like a great setup but the movie tanked with the fans of Ghostbusters.

My problem with the movie was it was a reboot instead of another branch of the Ghostbusters like the comic books. Would have worked out better and did in the future movies.

Totally agree. I saw it in the cinema and enjoyed it. Was it Great? No, not for me. But I enjoyed it, especially the opening scene.

I thought Kate McKinnon was hilarious on Saturday Night Live, in particular. So I had high hopes, even if I thought 'all female Ghostbusters' was not the most commercial direction to take the franchise.

I left the cinema thinking to myself, "That was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting based on all the stuff online, and in fact, I kind of liked it. But a lot of the humor didn't really land with me."

As I entered the theater that day, a late-teenage female employee was checking tickets at the door. I asked her if she'd seen Ghostbusters yet, and she said, "No," in that characteristic teenager way that manages to convey total disinterest/scorn in one syllable. I knew right then that if a 19-year-old female cinema employee wasn't going to bother to watch it, when she could see it for free, that this Ghostbusters was probably a flawed film.

The single part of the film that I actively disliked was Bill Murray being in the movie, but not as Ghostbuster Peter Venkman. As a Ghostbusters fan since childhood, I personally took that as Bill Murray giving me 'the finger' with a wry smile.

Regarding the "backlash" this movie got, RedLetterMedia looked into this back in the day and found said backlash was seemingly promoted by Sony Pictures' own marketing team as some sort of unorthodox marketing gimmick.

The reboot was okay. I remember it starting out okay but slowly devolving as the movie went on. I should rewatch it one of these days.
