I do not remember seeing this at the movies because it came out the same time as Raiders. I do remember watching it on rented VHS.

I remember begging to go see this in the theater, which I did with an older cousin. I also remember being quite obsessed with Medusa in particular before I had even watched the movie. Im thinking she mustve been in the trailer as well as schoolyard talk cause im not sure how else I wouldve been aware of her as a kid.
Imo, a great last hurrah for Harryhausen.

I wondered why they did not release the Greek Gods with this collection of figures.

Ah, yes! I loved this movie. One day it was on TV and I showed it to my (at the time) teenage daughter and she was FAR from impressed. But she doesn't get the Adam West Batman show either, so what does she know, LOL!

I love it, too! One of the first VHS I saw and later obsessively on HBO. (Along with Beastmaster & Yor... lol) I had all the original toys and re-collected them a few years ago. Release the Kraken!

Even as a thirteen year-old, I realized we should have gotten a Medusa figure instead of Charon from Mattel.

Totally! And Andromeda too.

Mattel really made some head scratching choices in their 3 3/4 inch lines. Like why give us a Lizard Woman instead of Dale in Flash Gordon? I still don't get that.

I begged my parents to take me to see this movie in the cinema when I was a boy of, I think, 10. I was completely blown away. Kraken was amazing, but the Medusa was the nightmare fuel that left a lasting impression on me!

The only slight downside is that the somewhat jumbled Greek mythology of this film (combined with other, preceding Harryhausen films) left me a little confused and misdirected when I took actual classes about it later, in high school and college.
