    Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein

Finally got a chance to watch this this evening, and quite enjoyed it. Visually stunning and an engrossing story well told and well acted. Del Toro took a few liberties with the story, but this captured the tone and feel of Shelly's novel better than any other adaptation I have seen. As much as I love the Whale film, it's a poor adaptation of the actual source material. This is a good adaptation and a good movie as well.

    Excellent movie!

We went to see it on opening weekend at Grauman's Egyptian Theater in Hollywood last month, it was presented on 35mm film. Beautiful theater, recently restored and currently owned by Netflix, it was an amazing "old world" theatrical experience. Sadly, the world-famous tourist trap known as Hollywood Boulevard is in a rather depressing state of unforgivable decay (to be charitable...quite charitable).

We went to see it again at one of our local theaters on the following weekend, this time in digital presentation.

In addition to the impressive cinematography, fine acting, remarkable costuming & splendid sound, we enjoyed how the story unfolded in chapters. For me, Elordi's portrayal of the creature left the most haunting & indelible impression of all.

We've yet to watch it on Netflix, but will be doing so very soon.

Highly recommend it to those who are fans of the genre.

We had to watch it on Netflix and loved every minute of it but at the same time wish we could have seen it at the theater.

It was incredibly frustrating the minimal amount of screens this movie had in regard to a theatrical release. When I first heard it was being "released in theaters" on 10/17/25, I requested the day off from work, and then spent time each Friday looking up showtimes in order to purchase pre-sale tickets for two back-to-back showings.

Each week, nothing materialized. Finally, in late September, I found one theater in Santa Monica, but wasn't interested in making that trip. In early October, I discovered the listing for Grauman's Egyptian Theater, but nothing locally. On Thursday, 10/16/25, still not finding anything local and desperate to see it on the big screen, we decided to "bite" on the Egyptian Theater option for the next day. Four days after that showing, one of our local theaters finally listed the movie for the upcoming weekend, just two days prior to the initial show dates. It actually ran for a few weeks there, but with limited show times.

Ultimately, as it turns out, the Egyptian Theater option was a wonderful experience, but the hunt frustrating nonetheless.

Hopefully, if it receives any Academy nominations, it will see a larger theatrical release for those who may wish to see it on the big screen.
