Good movie and great photography. Nothing really new storywise except maybe for the Renfield character. The Demeter like section of the movie was strong. The Lucy like character was good. Skarsgard did his usual great job and the heavy makeup was not distracting. I would have preferred it to look more like the traditional Nosferatu /Barlow style makeup but that’s a me issue. Great sound mixing which I appreciate more and more these days. Saw this in Houston at the newly remodeled River Oaks Theater. Very Art Deco feel and kind of like what a theater looked like for the release of Nosferatu 1924. Merry Christmas

Nosferatu was by far the most stunning movie I have watched this year. This is a movie that needs to be seen on a big screen with surround sound. The only problem I had was I could not sit with my BF (out of town) where the 'jump scares' scenes are better with somebody squeezing your arm.
Remember this is NOT Dracula but the other vampire King and enjoy the ride.

It isn’t like any other Dracula movie but what’s so odd is it seems to stick more closely to certain aspects of the original novel lore than any film version. In certain aspects.Comment

After I watched the movie my local theater got a metal Nosferatu's Sarcophagus that works as a popcorn bowl.

And it is big enough for a Mego. I plan on picking one up tomorrow when we go see Sonic.Visit my wiki site:

We saw the movie on Saturday, and we both appreciated it. Solid performances, great costuming, terrific visuals, effective sound, and the pacing was done fairly well. Nicholas Hoult looks great in period clothing, it really suits him (pun unintended...lol). My only complaint was that I found it a bit too graphic in some scenes, nothing too bad, but felt it unnecessary.

At first glance, I was impressed. Real metal and beautifully lithographed detail? Very nice! Even had what appeared to be ivy overgrowth in the floor of the box. Then I clicked for the close-up version... BWAHA-HA-HA! That's not ivy!!! Can you imagine your date scarfing down the last of the popcorn only to find THAT lurking in the bottom? I'm rolling here!
Thanks for posting pics of this stuff. All of our local theaters are long gone. I would be all over these items otherwise!Comment

Saw it today with my wife and daughter. I liked it, they didn't. After they also didn't care for The Witch, I guess Robert Eggers just isn't for them!
I agree it sticks closer than many Dracula adaptations. Make no mistake, Nosferatu is basically the Dracula story, which is why Stoker's still living widow got a court order for the 1922 film to be destoryed. Thankfully some prints survived.
I thought this one did some interesting things with the Ellen/Mina character. There's a connection, but it's not like Coppola's Dracula, which aped that aspect from Dan Curtis, who aped it from his own Dark Shadows. I love comparing the different Dracula adaptations to one another and the source novel. Of course vampires being destoryed by sunlight comes from the original Nosferatu and not Stoker's novel or previous works.
Nicholas Hoult is perhaps the best Jonathan Harker-type character. There's some disturbing blink and you'll miss it things in this film beyond the atmosphere and horror, particularly with Aaron Taylor-Johnson's character. Yikes.
But if you like the original Nosferatu or Stoker's novel, this is definitely worth your time, and as others have said visually stunning and very well-acted and directed.Comment

Just came from my local Cineplex Odeon and I enjoyed it very much.
It is Hammer meets some of the original meets Hammer meets Sleepy Hollow Meets HAMMER(!!!!!!!!!)!!! Meets the Best(???) of Edgar Allan Poe Meets BLADE II Meets VAN HELSING Meets HAMMER (God Damn it!!)
Ya know, Tim Burton is having a *** ****** over this!!
OOOOOO!!
Lily Rose Depp (Johnny's kid!!)! Bares more then a sticking resemblance to Adult Actress KRISTINA ROSE (GOOGLE IT!) So that was a PLUS for me especially in various scenes!
The special effects were good and I dug the use of light and shade in some of the castle and overcast scenes especially over WISBORG town.
Was it scary??? Naw, not for me. The saddest moments when the two little girls were...
I did find it ODD that they had a PROPER Funeral the NEXT DAY when the whole town (and world??) were going to HELL in a hand basket and a prepared tomb too!
The Swedish professor in your typical HAMMER role ala Peter Cushing came through and I did think at first there may have been a plot twist and he was involved with the baddies, but no. He was just a bit looney!
I also did suspect poor ANNA was also a baddie, especially in the bedroom scene with Ellen! heh...
Considering some of the gross scenes, I was not surprised, considering the "end scene" the way it was FRAMED in that shot and it had a very picturesque quality to it.
(Yeah, I have NOT graduated film school, YET!)
And even the scenes on the SHIP were a bit Over The Top in grossness!
I hope they DO NOT DO A SEQUEL. That would spoil the whole story of this production.
As Dr.Von Franz said; "I have seen things that would make ISSAC NEWTON crawl back into his Mother's womb!"
Now that would be a sight!
Bleedin' Cool says Herr EGGERS, said that the dvd will include a three hour extended cut besides the movie cut.
Nosferatu director Robert Eggers has confirmed that the Blu-ray release will include an extended cut of the film.
I think I will get a copy, might be worth it.
Cheers!!

I saw Nosferatu yesterday. I would call it an arty horror film. It's visually fantastic, with absolutely wonderful cinematography. The lighting, the music, the mood, all outstanding. All of the performances were terrific. No one, other than Jack Nicholson, does nuts like Willem Defoe.
As for Nosferatu, I didn't love the character design, as I found his Wyatt Earp mustache distracting and his Darth Vader breathing annoying. Also at just over 2 hours, it felt longer than it was. I think it plods along in places. But overall, it's a well crafted, unique take on the familiar story of a vampire, even if it's not the most scary or well paced adaptation.

Just read the next horror movie this director will do will be "Werewulf" and he says it will be the darkest movies he's ever done and will be set in the 13th century and have the dialect of that time.Comment

^That's intriguing, though I've always hoped someone might do a proper film of Endore's The Werewolf of Paris, with the (pretty intense ) horror elements balanced with the historical setting.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment
