A female friend of mine told me about the books before the book craze took off and how much she like them.

When I found out the books were catching on at my daughter's school (this was last year)...I immediately asked my friend if she thought the content was appropriate for an 11 year old girl. She said that the first two books are fairly tame but the 3rd and 4th ones are a little more sexually explicit than the first two and that I should probably read them and then decide for myself. As a side note, she mentioned that New Moon was the weakest of the 4 books.

I read the first two and gave my daughter the green light. I did enjoy some of the fight scenes from the book but otherwise thought the books were just ok...not really my cup of tea but I wasn't really reading out of my own interest, just making sure that I thought it was appropriate for my daughter.

The book took off soon after my friend mentioned it to me and after reading "Twilight" I asked her to explain to me why is it that females seem to swoon over Edward because I honestly don't get it. Her response was that Edward (the character) is in essence what every female fanticizes in a perfect man....handsome, protective, romantic, mannerly, and basically is in love with her to the point of wanting to spend the rest of eternity with her (her words, not mine). She said her biggest concern with teenagers and tweens reading the book is that no human male can possibly live up to the standards of Edward. She also made a point to say that even though his character is every female's dream; his character is very controlling over Bella and not allowing her much autonomy which also is not a good signal to send to younger female readers.

With that said, I thought both movies were pretty true to the book. I did think the first movie was better than the 2nd but mostly because the first book had a better plot than the 2nd so the movies are really more of a reflection of the book.

I have not read Eclipse or Breaking Dawn which are the 3rd and 4th books of the series but my friend said that she thought Eclipse was the best of the 4 books, Breaking Dawn 2nd, Twilight 3rd, and New Moon the weakest of the bunch.
I haven't read the books but my wife says the 3rd and 4th are the best ones
