It's the first Kaiju/Tokusatsu film to ever do so, the first Japanese film to do so, and technically the first horror film to do so.
Add to that, The Boy and the Heron won best Animated Feature and Japan had quite a night. I'm kind f glad Disney no longer dominates that category, but also feel there is a coordinated attack upon the studio lately. Still, they haven't put out anything great lately, so the criticisms aren't without merit.
Anyway, Stoked that Godzilla won!
