In Philly, we had Ultraman, J. Sokko and Space Giants. We'd get all fired up watching these shows, and then run outside and pretend to fight each other in character. I always liked shooting Ultraman's death ray from the side of my hand. My only issue with the shows was that they'd spend too much time talking, and I mostly wanted to see action.Comment

When we were kids, did it ever register that these shows were actually Japanese?
I watched Ultraman and all the rest, but never really thought about it. All you wanted to see were the big battles.sigpic "It's like you're unravelling a big cable-knit sweater that someone keeps knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting..."Comment

What always made me laugh was how they communicated with Walkie talkies that looked like radio or car antennas LOL!!!! I remember playing with radio antennas and pretending they were like the ones in the show....lol!Comment

Every day after school I couldn't wait to get home to watch Johnny Sakko and his flying robot... "Robot..launch!"Comment

Yeah. I think I always realised these were Japanese.
Just like my favorite movies, Godzilla, and Gamora.
And my favorite cartoons. Marine Boy and Speed Racer.
The mouths not matching the words were always a dead give-away.Comment

Growing up in L.A. we watched on weekdays after school, Kimba The White Lion, Little Rascals, Johnny Sokko and Ultraman. In the mornings we were treated to Speed Racer. All this on Channel 52.
On weekends it was Getter Robo, GoRangers, Raydeen.
We did the same thing with the car antennas as communicators. LOL.
Then switched gears and made masks like Ultraman or Giant Robot. Even Batman and Robin.
We always knew they were in Japanese and loved going to Little Tokyo in downtown L.A., have dinner and go to the toy store to get some cool Japanese toys. My favorite was the Gorangers. Had them all..had!Comment

I remember watching it before going to kindergarten.Comment

They're disguised as pens. So.... yeah, they're basicly pens with car antennas stuck in 'em.
Most of the "Global Giant Monster Defense Budget" went to the Science Patrol. Unicorn had to make due.

I didn't see alot of this show when I was a kid but I loved what I saw. I also loved Ultraman, Spectreman, and Space Giants. I'd say Ultraman was my favorite, but I enjoyed all of these shows. I believe they were all on KTVU back then. It is an Oakland/San Francisco station that we used to get in Reno, Nevada back in the 70's. They had the best shows.
...and remember this?
