ok I watched Carrie last night for the 1st in a while. I always remembered that in the end "Carrie" pulled the house down on top of them but after watching it last night, who brought down the house? Jesus (he's eyes were glowing in the end)? Anyone know?

I've always wondered about that too. I've never read King's novel, but I heard that it explicitly states Carrie's father was the devil, or at least a demon, which is why her mom went cuckoo and over-religious-nuts. I always theorized the "good" in Carrie made her destroy herself (after she went bat-#$%^ at the prom), due to her Christian faith, hence the glowing eyed Jesus. But that's just me.
Either way, a great movie, and what a freaking ending!!! Still makes me jump.

That's funny, from what I remember of the book, her parents were EXTREMELY Fundamentalist Christians who didn't believe in sex, not even within the confines of marriage, and that Carrie was conceived because one night her father got drunk and had sex with her mother.
He then promptly had an affair with another woman, and absconded with her, leaving his wife and three year old daughter alone.
There was a section in the book concerning Carrie's autopsy and it said that her pineal gland was unusually large and developed, and the theory went that it was the source of her powers.
In the movie, I think that creepy Jesus statue was like that when her mother got it. It's eyes glowed even when she was put into her prayer closet for getting her period at school.
I also believe that Carrie's powers were so out of control at that point, seeing as she had been stabbed by her mother, that she didn't bother to reign them in and let the house collapse on them.JediJaidaComment

You are probably right. I think I read the demon-father thing somewhere? Maybe the movie makers were going to change the story? Not really sure. That's funny, from what I remember of the book, her parents were EXTREMELY Fundamentalist Christians who didn't believe in sex, not even within the confines of marriage, and that Carrie was conceived because one night her father got drunk and had sex with her mother.
Just from viewing the movie I figured Carrie was a really advanced telekentic (think Jean Grey gone bad in X3) but her young, fractured mind viewed her powers as demonic. There was a section in the book concerning Carrie's autopsy and it said that her pineal gland was unusually large and developed, and the theory went that it was the source of her powers.

I read the book and then went to a drive-in with my Mum for a special mother/daughter night out.
I bugged her the whole way thru since I knew what was going to happen, but I nearly **** myself when the ending was different to the book. What a serve right!Comment
