I keep hearing it's really good and I usually really like Bruce Macdonald's movies.

Hadn't heard about it before, looks good, will keep an eye out for it.

I watched the trailer twice and thought that the DJ was Clancy Brown. Not until I checked the credits did I see that it was Stephen McHattie - most recently the Golden Age Nite Owl in Watchmen. Always thought he'd have made a better Joker in the first Batman movie. (I first saw him in Beauty & the Beast & Scene of the Crime around 1989-90).

        So;

I finally saw it. Very strange. It's an okay film from a technical point of view.... some weird bits and a scene that REALLY looks like something was chopped out.... but the idea is nifty. I don't think I've ever seen it before. Neat twist on an old story. I can't really say more without giving something away.... maybe.... it's hard to gauge.... but if you're looking for something the same, while being really different I'd give it a go.

It's based on a book, and now I gotta read the book to see if they get more into things. And watch the credits. There's stuff going on during the credits.

I thought it was pretty cool, but I wouldn't recommend it for everyone. McHattie's performance was a stand out.

What part seemed chopped out to you? I can't recall anything too strange, but I saw it a few months ago.

I believe the book was called "Pontypool Changes Everything" and two sequels are planned. From what I understand the book is broken into (at least) three locations, so the other two movies would take place at the same time in different places. IMDB lists part 2's title as "Pontypool Changes" so presumably the third movie would eventually be called called "Pontypool Changes Everything".

If you haven't seen the film, stop reading!

I thought the film jumped at the point they were attacked by the girl. They knock her down, then there's a break showing the poster with no people, then there's a jump to them kicking her corpse. Looked like the actual fight was chopped.

            >I believe the book was called "Pontypool Changes Everything" and two sequels are planned.

I want to read the book; 'cos I want to see if they get into the whole virus idea more. THAT was cool! I've never seen it done like that before.

Have you seen any other Bruce McDonald movies? "Roadkill" is a great Canadian cult classic movie, and my other favorite is "Hard Core Logo". If you like strange movies and rock music you might want to check them out.

Ah - okay, I sort of remember the cut your talking about. I wonder if they cut around the fight because they thought it was distasteful or because they looked at the footage and didn't like how it turned out. There were a few scenes where the film's limited budget did seem more obvious. I thought you were maybe talking about how the Dr. pops into the film by jumping though the window. Seemed like they were trying to be quirky, but to me it felt a little awkward. I assume it would make sense if the Dr. character would be carried into the other movies as well.

I was okay with that. It was weird, but the doctor was kinda weird and he DID have a good idea what was going on and how to deal with it right from the first time you see him so's I could see him surviving the trek. And yeah; we never actually see or hear him die, so he might show up again. I'm wondering if he has a bigger part in the book. (The film kinda eluded to his clinic being the first place hit by the plague.)

just finished watching it now and I have to say that I really liked this a lot. Like you Don, I now have to get my hands on the book.

Ohh and about that "scene cut" I think it was done that way for a more "film style effect" than something actually being removed

Possible plot spoiler stop reading here:

if you combine the film "the signal with Stephen kings kind of rip off book of the signal called "the cell" you have this film here.
(the signal was actually made before King wrote the Cell)

this wording is so the spoiler is in the middle
