    Knowing

Has anyone seen this new Nicholas Cage Sci-Fi thriller? Saw it last night and came away not being able to decide if it was clever and brilliant, or just plodding and poorly thought out. Roger Ebert loved it so I'm tempted to watch it again in a few months to see if it comes off any better than it did last night. Maybe I was tired. Maybe it was overblown nonsense. The special effects were wonderful - but that is nothing special these days.

Anyone else see it? What did you think? And what were the friggin' black stones about? Did the aliens have Japanese rock gardens?

I don't think they're suppose to be aliens

I liked it, the last 30 minutes were weird but I enjoyed it

I liked it, it was a decent film and ended up going in a direction I wasn't expecting (which is cool, I hate predictable films).

My thought is that they were aliens that human lore eventually translated into angels (the aliens were even made to look like they almost had angels' wings). It was like a science fiction explanation for events depicted in the bible.

It was watchable for the first hour or so but then went completely off the rails.

The black stones were just a clue as to where to go and meet the aliens/angels when the time came. The people in the other spaceship "arks", seen in the background of later scenes, likely had different clues where their meetplace was.
