Wolfman remake has now been bumped again...to 2010 release

This just doesn't sound good at all... I heard the studio demanded Rick Baker do a makeup change and put the wolf on all fours...That's not part of this story, but that's what Im hearing from a few close to the production.

Oh please. I was just griping to my wife how no Hollywood werewolves are actual "werewolves" anymore. They are just CGI wolves. Whoppity-do. This showed promise, since they actually were sticking to the Wolfman concept literally. I sure hope that isn't true.

But what's with the delay? And how come the big studios never take advantage of Halloween to release these type of movies? Ugh.

I hope he can stand up right. I don't mind running on all fours, heck Chaney tried to simulate this as best he could. But if he looks like the werewolves from Underworld, it's going to suck.

Ech, the whole reason I was looking forward to this is that it wouldn't be adhering to the overused "American Werewolf" style. Sad, this is the Wolf Man, it should lead, not follow.

If he ain't standing upright with make-up and such, I'm gonna be really disappointed.

Bummer - I think the idea of an upright Wolfman - ie - Wolf-"MAN" is scarier.

I hope not, but I'm afraid this movie is probably gonna suck.

                    Hmmmm....

It's kinda ironic.... the original werwolf legends spoke of people turning into wolves outright.... but the old school Universal movie put the idea of a hominid wolf into people's minds.... and now they're going back to the OLD old school version.

But still calling it "The WolfMAN." See; it's a slippery slope. First you make StarBUCK a woman, then you get THIS....

When do the weekly reminders of the nerd rage over this end? I'm not just fingering you on this but there are like 3-4 people here that have mentioned this what seems like weekly for five years. Is this an association? Can I lobby them to stop?

I have to say the more they conceptualize the Wolfman, the less it becomes a remake and more of a "reimagining" which I don't believe anyone wants. Perhaps when it's all said and done this film will only prove you can't remake a classic. When I think of the Wolfman, I think of the incredible performance of Lon Chaney Jr. as Larry Talbot. His guilt-stricken face is almost as iconic as the Wolfman makeup itself. In my eyes, if you can't honor the original elements that made fans covet the film, then don't waste your time. I say that not as a "nerd" but as a fan of film. The 40's classic is a film that had great performances and great production value to it. The story itself had some great elements, but was limited in scope. So when a studio says they're going to remake this movie, that tells me the studio will flush out that story a little better but also revisit iconic production elements that made the original a classic. That's a fair expectation. Right now their beginning to drift from the source material and that warrants some concern for what their doing. Obviously they didn't have a clear idea of what they were doing going into this so fans should be puzzled. If you remake Jaws you don't introduce a Hammerhead shark, you bring back the Great White. Well if your redoing the Wolfman people think, "Wow. I get to see an upright wolf-MAN again." We have already seen every other variation of a werewolf EXCEPT for the classic version. That's what fans want and the only reason to retell this story. Unfortunately what this film is starting to appear like is "Wolf" with Jack Nicholson, which Rick Baker also did. If they take that approach, then the association with the classic is further lost and people will start making comparisons with the Jack Nicholson film.

On a side note, here are some figures Sideshow put out years ago. I've really enjoyed them...

Actually, a lot of the old stories and illustrations of werewolves describe an anthropomorphic creature, not a full-on wolf. Check wikipedia for openers.
I don't mind either if it's done right, but CGI werewolves look like heck.
Van Helsing made me very sad. I miss hard effects, period.

The re-shoots took six weeks and also involved a scene showing a confrontation between the Wolfman and a Werewolf. The paper's source said that the action is now dramatic and exciting.

I guess the Wolf Man is a different species altogether.

Yeah, I noticed that. So maybe (just maybe) The Wolfman is still a biped, and the werewolf is just a big wolf? Remember, Bela the Gypsy was a wolf when he bit Talbot in the original movie.
