I'm just curious, how does an amateur runner donate 50 grand??

Even though I am more impressed by Bolt, I can't take Phelps' accomplishment lightly.
Here in Oklahoma City, the highest-rated radio station is Sport's-Talk Oriented and I get a little hacked at one particular host who wants to minimize what Phelps did, as I if his old-butt could have done it. If it was easy, someone would have done it before, right?
That being said, Bolt is amazing and I'd say there is a distinction between the two, but the distinction lies within the differences between swimming and running. Both leave little doubt as to who rules in either category.Last edited by saildog; Aug 23, '08, 6:27 PM.Comment

They get paid for winning medals so I hear. As I stated in another post they said that even in the U.S. $25K for a gold, $15K for a silver, and $10K for a bronze.
Apparently, Speedo was going to give Phelps a $1M payday if he won 8 Gold so I guess you are allowed to make money and participate.
Bolt was amazing. He probably didn't get the coverage he deserved because he wasn't from the U.S. I honestly had not heard of him before the Olympics started but I sure know his name now.
I told my wife the same thing as a few of you mentioned about football. He told her at 6 foot 5, if he can catch a football on the run, he would make millions in the NFL. I don't know how long it takes him to get to full acceleration but he might be able to run a 40 in less than 4 seconds!"The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Bolt has been a professional athlete for a few years now.
The US quit enforcing the amateur rule in the olympics in 1992. The Dream Team Olympics was the first non amateur olympics (for the US -other countries were already allowing pros).
If Pros weren't in then Phelps, who has between 1 & 5 million dollars of endorsements, would have been out.Comment
