But it's sad when everytime I go to one of their stores, I see less and less people there.

Their discount store, Zellers, is giving WallyMart a run for its money, though. Actually, the retail Hudson's Bay and the Fur Trading Hudson's Bay were two distinct entities. After the HBC sold Rupert's Land to Canada, they high-tailed it back to England with most of the money.

But the US had their fun with fur traders too. The Dutch Traders, the Jan Guys out of New York, were notorious rivals of the English Traders based in Boston (where the HBC was born). The Boston Traders (Bostonais) had the monopoly for the colonies, and had to levy a tax for the British Crown on luxury items such as tea. The Jan Guys smuggled in tea, and the Bostonais undercut the price to eliminate the competition.

The Jan Guys didn't like that, so they dressed up as Indians and went down to Boston Harbour where the Bostonais ships were...
