But the US had their fun with fur traders too. The Dutch Traders, the Jan Guys out of New York, were notorious rivals of the English Traders based in Boston (where the HBC was born). The Boston Traders (Bostonais) had the monopoly for the colonies, and had to levy a tax for the British Crown on luxury items such as tea. The Jan Guys smuggled in tea, and the Bostonais undercut the price to eliminate the competition.
