So they are also dictating how we can ship, too. If I sell a antique/collectible book that is valuable, and the buyer wants it insured, I might be able to ship it media rate insured. Barely. I'm done selling on ebay. That's really it for me.

My wife recently opened a new sellers account with them, right after their new Detailed Seller Rating rating (stars system) went into effect.

One of the regulations she read said something to the effect of, while she was new and didn't have any DSR scores yet or her DSR rating wasn't above 90-something % , that PayPal reserves the right to place a hold on all of her PayPal payments over $100 that she received for her auctions, until she establishes herself as a reliable new seller. What the hell? EBAY/PayPal are just looking for anyway possible to keep your money collecting intrest in their bank for as long as they can!

Have you looked at those rating descriptions? Do they really think that most buyers are going to award sellers with Very Satisfied for everything? I charge exact shipping, and send everything priority mail, and my Shipping rating still doesn't hit Very Satisfed.

PayPal also doesn't hestitate to place a "hold" on funds in your PayPal account if a buyer says 'boo" about anything.

I've had $100 tied up in a completely ridiculous Claim for almost a month now, because the buyer refused to return the item he was unhappy with for a full refund (instead, the buyer was outrageously demanding a 60% refund, and keep still the item.--when the item is so valuable and rare, that there hasn't even been another one listed on Ebay for over 8 months now)

Tomorrow the claim is finally going to be closed in my favor (unless he finally decides to return the item) and I'll get my finally get my money back.

I swore after this headache, I would never accept PayPal again. But if it's becoming eBays manditory form of payment, I'm done with them.

            Here's what I don't understand .......

In addition to shipping incentives, we're introducing limits on shipping and handling charges in one of our biggest and most competitive categories, Media (Books, DVDs & Movies, Music and Video Games).

This means that Media sellers will need to offer at least one shipping option within the specified limit. The dollar limits are fair, especially compared to what e-commerce competitors typically charge for shipping. With this move, we're also ensuring that buyers encounter fewer excessive shipping charges, which is the number one reason they leave the site.

First thing, I ship everything Priority-Insured.

Does that mean if a buyer requests media-rate, I HAVE to ship it media ?
If so, who picks up the tab when the package gets lost ?
            I thought so.

Can they really dictate how a buyer must ship ?

BINGO!!! That's exactly what I was thinking. Ebay could have easily avoided this in the beginning by making all sellers or potential sellers fill the proper forms from the IRS. But they didn't, and now Ebays success has the FED finally going after them and asking them for lists of sellers both big and small. It's like anything that was once good...Uncle Sam wants his cut. It's sad that stuff we already paid taxes on, be it years ago or recently, the Fed wants to tax again. God forbid the "Little Guy" makes enough money to put food on the table....or be able to KEEP their houses instead of going into forclosure. Corporations already run the world...and it's only going to get worse people. Especially when these Corporations start to dictate to YOU, the ultimate consumer, how things will be done. Hopefully this will mean more Toyshows on other collectible shows in the future...where you can actually hold the item that you are interested in buying and judge whether it is worthy enough of the price that is being asked. WOW...what a concept.

That will be a big problem. Now you will have to have every DSR rating over 4.3 or you can't sell. That means that most customers have to rate you as 5 stars, "Very satisfied" or you are screwed. It's insane, a lot of buyers would rate some seller's aspects at 4 stars: "Satisfied" and they would think that they are giving the seller a good review. They would have no idea that they would be actually hurting the seller. I think the average, casual seller is about done on ebay.

It has clearly been time for an alternative to eBay for some time now. When this will ever become a reality is the big question.

Stop selling on Ebay. Just post them on the Museum's Marketplace. The key would be to get the prospective ebay buyers to know where to look. I know it says, no auctions but I don't think there would be a problem with "$XX.00 or best offer" or something of that nature. Anyone have any ideas on the subject?

The change of the Payment through Credit Card only won't happen until October:

"So starting in late October, 2008, we are moving to 100% electronic payments - credit cards, ProPay, or PayPal"

So, with that being said...start selling now before they go over to "Paperless" crap...and then after they implement the change, just stop selling on ebay. Simple as that.

A government organisation here, the Australian Consumer Competition Commission stepped in and said that it was an unfair, monopolising practice for them to enforce payments by paypal only. So paypal had to back off.

We are still required to include paypal as a payment option.

I think the limits on postage costs are unreasonable...I wish it were possible to post things for the amounts they list. Wow, greed has no bounds.

Hardygirl, you can link your bank account to Paypal, so you don't have to use a credit card, if that is any comfort to you...

I deal with 3 peeps I can think of that don't do paypal, Leitner, Kenneth and Blue Meanie. Not sure how its going to affect Brian Leitner on ebay, he's been very adamant about not using paypal.

My dad has been selling on ebay for over 10 years now (member since May 98) and he has never taken Paypal, just cheques and money orders. I'm not looking forward to his reaction to this news, he won't be happy.
