That's pretty awesome how the Rebels talked Vader into letting go of his anger, and convinced him to join his sworn enemies in a tour that more than matched the Tatooine Cantina Band for sheer muscial invention, and totally blew away the Jabba's Palace House Band! It wasn't long after this shot was taken (or the individual shots that the artist assembled into a painting) that Vader had a (predictable) falling out with the band, claiming the guitar player was getting all the limelight. What a spoil sport.
..and then began Chewie's long, sad slide in heroin abuse. Long arms and thick Wookie veins easily hidden my all that hair were the perfect set up for a classic tale of rock tragedy.
Apparently this was a SW Fan Club poster in the late 90s.
As a kid, I made some rock duds for my SW figures. Had a little band and a stage. Chewie was indeed on drums. The rest of the band consisted of a Stormtrooper, Tuskin Raider, and Hammerhead. I still have the cardboard guitars and drumsticks tucked behind the fellows in their vinyl case.
If you notice Vader is flying on wires---he's about the go sailing out over the crowd on wires. That's so awesome it's stupid. Or so stupid it's awesome.
The glitter embedded in Luke's shirt, his platform soles on his farmboy boots, the ripped punk Leia dress. It just makes me laugh, the details are so great.
