I'm sorry to be the grumpy guy here, but swimming gives out too bloody medals. Too many swim competitions, no wonder Mark Spitz won seven way back in the day.
Take away swimming, and the USA would finish with half as many medals and Australia with NONE.
Besides, any fish in the sea would smoke Phelps, lol.

Phelps is quite amazing.
Steve Redgrave won Gold Medals at five consecutive olympics for rowing.

Yeah. . .but France must be kicking themselves. The story I heard was that he has visited Togo only once. He is French and failed to make their team. So. . .since his father was born in Togo he is enabled to compete for that country even though he has nothing to do with it.
Togo sent 4 athletes. . . and they get a BRONZE.
That is a GREAT story and fantastic for both TOGO and the dude that France didn't want!Comment

That's a bit rough Hector! I just had a look and Australia has won 9 non-swimming medals, including two gold, and we're only halfway through. Our total population is about the same as Texas or Florida too so we're doing okay I think. Track and field give out more medals than Swimming, 141 to 102.
We do love swimming fast though, you would too if you lived on an island surrounded by shark-infested waters!

I heard New Zealand won a gold or was it bronze for swimimg....Probably got their training trying to catch hobbit's.
