    computer advice needed

I'm really tired of my old PC and its problems (takes a good 5 minutes to boot, for one!) and am going to buy a new one.

How is Vista Ultimate 64bit as compared to Windows XP Pro 64?

I am thinking about a system like this:

Do not worry, please contact our support team to help you find your page.

I don't do a lot of gaming, but I do play City of Heroes online, and am tired of having to decide between nice graphics and speed of play, so that's a consideration. (This system comes with Dual PNY nVidia GeForce 8800GTS cards. For $11 each, I can upgrade to dual GEFORCE 9600GT 512D3 cards.)

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Joe

Not bad of a system. If you are going to do a lot of gamming. You might want to make sure you have a lot of hard drive space. 250gbs is perfect!

Make sure you buy extra memory if this is all that it come with. Computers that are turned into gaming units, need lots of memory. I have found that out the hard way.

A lot of my geek friends who game alot I notice have alienware computers. They have said these are perfect for gaming.

    You look into Alienware?

Well, like I said, I don't do a lot of gaming - just City of Heroes online and Pirates of the Caribbean online. I'm just sick of the graphics looking bad. I could install a new graphics card, but the one I was looking at needs a better power supply than I have, and I'm just tired of my crappy Gateway desktop.

I use my PC primarily for Microsoft Word, Photoshop, and the Internet, and I have a gazillion external drives (well, okay, seven) and like to be able to have many, many windows open at once so I can multitask; the gaming in ancillary to that, so I'm trying to find a system that will support everything I do.

Alienware systems are great, but tend to be super expensive - at least more than I want to pay!

Memory is a must. If I get that system, I'm adding 4 GB of memory for a total of 8GB. (I think XP only recognizes 3.5 GB, so I will probably go with Vista Ultimate. At least once I verify that Vista will run everything I currently have!)

      Thanks for the feedback!

I wouldn't quite yet go with the 64bit versions of Windows. I do believe there are still a fair amount of incompatibilities with a lot of games.

So you think Win XP 64 would be better?

I agree. . .my laptop only runs with Vista. . .and apparently can't install XP on it at all. It isn't worth it. . .Man I wish I was still on XP as well.

                    Joe

If you want 64bit move to Linux. Then use the free version of VMWARE server to run a virtual copy of XP for when you want to run your games

For your word procesing you can d'load open office its totally free and compatible with Microsoft Office.

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?
