    Hot-lunch or cold lunch ?

Sherry's thread got me remembering ........
Back in the day,... You either brought your lunch to school ......
Or had a lunch ticket (for a hot lunch)

There were 3 different colour tickets in my school

    1. Green ticket
your family payed for you to get a "hot lunch" (weekly)

    2. Gold Ticket
You got a "hot lunch" for free ... usually because of a dead parent or other family tragedy.

    3. Red Ticket
You payed for a hot lunch only for "today"

    I was a gold ticket kid ....
Us gold ticket kids had to watch out for one another

No tickets here. You either brought it or bought it. I think I mainly brought it in elementary school and bought it once I reached Jr. High and High School.-

It was a bit of both for me. . .we call it tuck shop (short for tucker meaning food I guess). I used to love a hotdog at school on my tuck shop days.

My son never wants tuck shop. But my daughter has tuckshop 3 times a week mixed with food we send with her.

Never saw anywhere where you went and sat and eat a hot meal served up on trays like you see in the US or in the UK though. . .seen on TV that is.

During my Elementary School days, we were permitted to go out for lunch. We usually walked to a local pizza place and then stopped in the corner candy store on our journey back to school. $1.00 went a long way back then. Those were the days!!!

At the beginnnig of the school year, parents would fill out a form as to the family's financial status, to determine whether you would get a free lunch. I got free lunch until 4th grade. After that, I brought lunch, b/c I couldn't deal w/ the gross lunches anymore. Once I hit Jr. Hi, I had reduced breakfast and lunch. In Hi School when I lived w/ my dad, I got free lunch again.

I lived one block from school, hot lunchs baby!

Maybe it was my rural upbringing or a Canadian thing but no school around here had a hot lunch program nor do they now.

Our lunch ladies were great (we had 3)

30 years later, I still can remember every single one of their names.

                They were all nice

I never brought a lunch to school. I went to a small private school (my class was 7 kids) where just about everyone lived in walking distance of the school. We went home every day for lunch and had whatever we want.

It wasn't til I was shipped away to boarding school for H.S. that I ate in a cafeteria. But, even then, we had choice of a hot and cold for every meal.

Yeah, I know, I totally missed out on the great cultural phenomenon known as "lunch swapping." Surprisingly enough, I'm ok with that.

In grammer school, I ate lunch at home until 6th grade when my mom got a job.

I believe I ate PB&J and chocolate milk everyday from 7th grade until I graduated High School.

There were occasions when I bought lunch -- sometimes on pizza day or when they had tater tots. yummy greasy tater tots.....

otherwise the school lunch was pretty nasty.

it was either paid dinners , free dinners or packed lunch for us...but most of us would save our dinner money and bus fares and go into town to the chippy or bakers...anything left over would be rapidly spent in the sweet shop where a multitude of sugury delights awaited.

In grade school...sandwich, a little bag of Fritos, and a banana in a metal lunchbox...I would get milk at the school.

Junior high school...sometimes a brown bag and sometimes school cafeteria.

High school...a bunch of us would drive to McDonalds or Burger King everyday...needless to say...I started gaining a lot of weight, lol.
