Anyone who can list ELO's "Time" as an album of importance to them is way cool in my book. I thought I was the only one in the world who clicked with that album.

Jeez, another thought-provoking thread.. (my head already hurts..).

Trek: Living in Wisconsin, I had a couple of huge Packer posters back in '72, then I discovered Star Trek.. All the posters went bye-bye quickly.

Marvel Comics: On one of the MANY 2wk roadtrips my parents dragged me on in the back seat, I found a copy of FF#138 at a gas station. Comics now had a purpose in my life.., the doors to a new world slammed open, and it was AWESOME!

Star Wars: I had been so, so into Space:1999, making cardboard ships with my pal Mike with Trek and 1999-type stories and characters. When May of '77 came, the world shook on it's axis..

Who: But, after a few years of "MORE HUGE BUDGET" movies with retred stories, I discovered Tom Baker on a PBS station, which liberated me from all the hollywood-hype about special effects, spaceships, etc.. Sci-Fi didn't have to be expensive to be fun anymore..

Music: Loved the Beatles and Monkees growing up, then I discovered the early Stones in college, along with the Police, ska, B52s, etc.. The babes came much easier after that..
        Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

The first time I'd heard of it was when "Twilight" and "Hold on Tight" were used for the opening and closing animations of the Japanese Daicon festival. (A huge yearly animation convention.) It took a while to find it on CD; but it was worth it. (Although you gotta admit it's a damned depressing album! The whole moral is that you can't lose hope, 'cos you've really got nothing else.)

I think a big event for me was reading the comics "Mars" and "Judge Dredd" for the first time. More than anything else, THESE books showed what a comic COULD be.

My parents coming back from Toyfair with samples like Fist Fighting Robin and a carded sandperson
Visiting PK Douglas and my Dad buying a couple of cases of Lincoln Monsters to sell, just so i could have the Frankenstein doll from the show room.

                Big Jim P.A.C.K

                Manowar
                Roger Miller
The whole Grunge scene and the early ninties rock scene.

                Comedy:
Carlin's "Take off and Put On's" changed my life.

In general, growing up has been a blast, I loved my childhood in the 70's. My parents weren't always able to be around but dammit, when they were they packed our days with some really fun nonsense. I get to be the guy in charge now and do the same for my brood, I love it.

Yes, I clearly forgot: George Carlin's 'Class Clown'...!?!

That gave me ample playground stand-up material for months (and a few written invites to the principal's office..). Never heard anyone swear on a record before....

My mom buying me the first-issue Mego RC Batman and Robin rank up there as well.

Ah, Palitoy... I'm glad you brought up trading cards!

As a kid growing up in the 70's, it was such a big deal to me and my buddies.

No internet back then... no videos or dvds... once you saw a movie you loved, like Superman or Star Wars, there wasn't much of a way to stay connected. There was no chance to see it again until it came out on broadcast tv, maybe a year later.

So we would walk up and down the road, finding discarded pop bottles to redeem for some cash at the little country store, then we would buy a pack of cards... The Black Hole, Star Wars, Superman...

It was a chance to learn some trivia and relive those great movie memorys!

Yes... I became a huge ELO fan in those years... there was such a great sci'fi element in that TIME album.

Maybe I'm just old and jaded now... but nothing seems to grab me like it used to... or is it just mediocre product being released everywhere?

                      Most have been mentioned already.

Hardy Girl...no shame in Michael Jackson. My wife and I were listening to History on our way to vacation and both agreed that despite his personal issues, he is a musical genius. Thriller was unlike any album I have ever heard up to that time.

                      Movies

                      Star Wars

                      Clash of the Titans

                      '67 Spidey
                      Scooby-Doo (old stuff)

                      Music

                      Michael Jackson Thriller
KISS (They were the biggest thing around when I was in the 4th grade)
                      Bee Gees
Any kind of Disco K-Tel album my parents purchased
