Bill (AKA Codeboy) rides. Wednesday nights, there is a cool bike night at a pub just up the street. Come on over!
Mike, my first bike was a Yamaha 125. I was 13 and really a bit too daring for such a bike, but I'm still alive. I credit that to good training and a taught respect of the bike.
My Grandfather put his first Harley into the side of a model T and landed in the drivers lap. My Dad laid one down when an elderly lady pulled out in front of him and stopped. I have had near misses with people pulling out in front of me or merging over into my lane, but good training and experience keeps me out of most danger.
People always say to me..."motorcycles are dangerous". I just smile and say, "I know that and knowing is why I stay unharmed".
my mate went through a off duty police vans front window and out through the back door and skid down the road, they had to cut his helmet off him, he was in a coma for a month...i visited him every day and hand fed him in the early recovery days
good news is he made a 100% recovery, well i say 100% we went out and got straight back on a bike not long after so im thinking hes as mad as a hatter
in short i dont do bikes, however i do like to look at them very much, i like the custom made stuff like on west coast choppers
but anyways, take it easy out there on them roads guys
oh by the way the off duty "speeding" police officer of the law was jailed and banned from the road... my mate also got around £30,000 / $60,000 which was a lot of money around 20 years ago
Too much inherent danger for me...I won't own a Smart car or any other small car for the same reason.
I just heard on the local news this morning of a man who was killed on his cycle hitting a deer. I know you can get killed by hitting one in a car but not a risk I'm willing to take considering how many near misses I've had over the years.
I also find many motorcycle riders around here to disregard the rules of the road such as riding down the shoulder during rush hour, riding between cars to the front of a stop light, and just weaving in and out of cars at a high rate of speed. I'm sure these riders are the exceptions but do worry that their reckless behavior will one day result in a bad accident.

I ride a Suzuki GSF1200 myself, always something of the two wheel variety around. Came real close to riding this Dirt Squirt home from a flea market this weekend (excuse the cell pic). If it would have been a Toad instead of a Rat, which was my first street bike at 15, I would have nabbed it for sure.
I did/do! I don't have my bike anymore. If you remember someone wanted it worse than I did Someday I might grab another one. Been eyeing some my size. Far and few between, I tell ya!
Wants, original parts; thinking...
It's the quiet ones you gotta watch!

Bikes are not for everyone and I would never encourage anyone "afraid" of them, to get on one.
The talk is usually how dangerous they are, but if you are smart, alert, properly attired, and drive responsibly/defensively, the danger is no more than with most vehicles on the road.
The guys doing the daredevil stunts up the centerline are the guys who get killed and make the motorcycle statistically dangerous.
I agree with Shane, if anyone wants to ride, they should take a BRC (Beginning Riders Course) In a weekend you will learn the basics of riding and safety. You can also see if you even want to ride a bike. The class provides the bike and helmet so you don't have to buy one before you decide if this is for you
Idiots on bikes that drive recklessly are just potential organ doners.
