Venom...the movie?

Well looks like Sony is jumping on Venom as a possible spin off from Spiderman 3. See article here:

Now while I'm all for a well constructed story, I have strong reserves about whether sufficient treatment can be given to such a character and whether he can find an audience for a solo film (specially since most studios won't commit a large budget to a project like this). Got to believe this can be, at best, a strong B-style film.

They got so many movies that are supposed to be getting made as we speak. It is hard to tell what is really going to actually go through.

I though this was a weird idea. My fear is it will become a "Scorpion King" type of movie to the Spiderman franchise.
